No, increase castrum XP reward to be as good as prae (or rework both to be done with trusts).
Hello! I'm a free human being who has the right to decide how I want to spend my time. 30 minute penalty is all you're going to get, and all you deserve. Maybe more than you deserve.
Not really a waste when there is tons to do if they are waiting the thirty. I dont imagine they are just sitting there staring at the timer.
Thirty minutes is good enough penalty. No one has the right to hold people hostage or want to have them overly punished for not wanting to do certain things in the game. If you want to do it then wait for it to refill.
So, let me just share some thoughts as someone who frequently abandons Castrum, in just about any role...
First, regarding a hypothetical double time penalty. I can guarantee you, 255%, that this would not deter people from bailing from Castrum. Not even a little bit and it simply boils downs to the fact that the game in its current state has just a bunch of things to offer that are not related to instance queuing. That's it really. Getting an hour penalty will just mean that this an hour I'm spending fate farming, crafting, gathering, leve-farming, etc. If I actively use alts ( I have 2 others but they've been collecting dust), chances are that I'm bouncing to one of them. On paper, my time might look wasted. In reality, zero effs have been given and I feel like I'm spending my time better elsewhere.
Second, Prae is high exp, low effort. Castrum is the inverse but what makes Castrum actually irritable is the multiple, SHORT cutscenes that simulate the feeling of being interrupted by a unsolicited phone calls while you're deeply focused into something. You so much as move as five steps and bam, a one min cutscene. Or an eight second cutscene to notify me that I've either completed a task or I'm about to go on the next one. I breathe and-WHAM-Cid's calling me about something that I already knew. Prae doesn't force my mental engagement like that at all. Prae has less work, less cutscenes. Are they long? Hells yes, which enables me to disconnect comfortably to do something else while it goes on. You know the memes about it and they're real.
So no, I will not feel bad about leaving Castrum at all. No amount of exp rate math you present to me will dissuade me. Increased penalty just means I'd sooner abandon all of msq roulette altogether than force me to participate in the slog that is Castrum.
Given we also get threads periodically from people crying about the 30 minute duty abandonment penalty I'm pretty sure people doing this actually are just sitting there staring at the timer. :P
In regards to roulettes in general I'd say the 30 min full lockout is fine but disable the specific roulette they ditched for a week as well since you shouldn't queue a roulette to begin with unless you are willing to complete any duty in said roulette.
This wouldn't be an issue if Castrum wasn't worth half the XP of Praetorium. Simply increase the value of Castrum.
People prefer Prae because it's more exp and significantly less work. It takes longer but almost all of the time is spent watching cutscenes. They should probably increase Castrum's reward somewhat.
Mostly when an expansion just got release, the game gets rather messy in certain areas. Thing is "joining in progress" is optional so replacements are not always guaranteed. Sometimes they come instantly others you have to manage with with whatever is left there or just quit. From a XP point of view Prae is better when you don't want to play the game and just get XP for being mostly AFK. Of course, if everyone take "the smart route" new players could find themselves having a hard time completing Castrum.
Best solution is to remove said roulette and make it a solo duty since is always going to be problematic, temporal solution will be force to activate join in progress to anyone using MSQ roulette to ensure replacements. And probably, if was possible I will add a low key penalty if you leave Castrum with a first timer present: is the only instance you are going to get from said roulette for that day, so is either that or not doing it.
Also worth mention that only the first to leave get a penalty (fun times those stand off of players at the entrance just waiting for someone to take one for the team), others can leave and que right away (reason I'm requesting enforcing "join in progress" when using MSQ roulette).
