It's a valid concern. The earrings really only have value on the overworld, during things like FATEs, where individual mob XP is very low. That's relevant, because the earrings were a major drive for preorders, but I don't see myself doing this again for the next expansion -- with the XP bonus being completely insubstantial now... and preorders are important for a company (or really anyone selling anything), because they make planning a lot easier.
The decision to go about it this was was not great, from a business standpoint, and it feels bad if you permanently feel as if you miss out on a large chunk of XP because all the progress paths are decoupled from mob kill XP.
Huh, you know, that kinda sucks. Didn't notice it, but it really does devalue them.
But they DO work on dungeon XP? Not the roulette bonus (they never did), but the XP from the bosses does get boosted.
I bought Endwalker months ago because I wanted the earring and the Early Access.
Turns out I couldn't play at all during early access and mob exp from dungeons was removed so the earring is now essentially worthless.
Way to go SE.
