I searched out Asmongold on youtube to see what all of the fuss was about, his latest video is "Asmongold Reacts to FFXIV MEMES!" I watched about 4 minutes into it, I can't say I didn't cringe, I kinda already had a guess mischief was afoot in the game by the way some dress, advertise their guilds and often herd together in market hubs....but I had no idea just how cringe things got. I can honestly say, I wish I never knew now.

I'm guessing he's getting heat for talking about stuff people didn't want made public?? I'm not going to look any further into his submissions, I'm happy with the game running quests and stuff outside of roeplay.

He's a long term wow player, and will go back to wow because that is his fan base. FFxiv is just a distraction and content for his channel, he played eso as well, though with much less fanfare.

The rest of your points from the top of my head: "maybe they have an entertaining personality": no, they do not. They probably think that they do.

"we can look at games to see if they're good": that's what reviews are for, and they're more efficient at conveying opinions too. Videos are usually a waste of time for this.

"They can expose game secrets": another thing done more efficiently through text. It's what forums are for.
