A majority of that thread just seems to be people reiterating the same misinformation of Garleans being unable to use aether period :p Really wish people would do their research more before spreading false info.

I agree and think we can push this point a little further.
We can't say that all Garleans are evil.
We can't say all Garleans are bad.
We can't even say this about many of the kinds of monster (and I don't just mean because of the beast tribes).
There is no group we can point to and say that they are all evil aligned, especially with a group is as fractured as the Garleans are.
That is kind of the point. According to stated lore for the game, Garleans as a whole are not able to use magic outside very very few individuals. This no longer becomes true when you see Garlean white mages or black mages on every street corner as PCs.
Moreover to quote myself from the previous exchange:
Quote:
In addition, (sorry I already said this) Garlean characters in the hero team (like Cid) are meant to be rare/unique. There is (Rightly) a bit of a hullabaloo whenever a Garlean is befriended by the heroes. It wouldn’t work if suddenly even 10% of the player population were suddenly Garlean.
It is also forbidden for any non-Padjali to become a White Mage, the WoL, a non-Padjali, becomes an exception. Summoning as a more advanced art (as in, not the basic Carbuncles of Arcanists) is long dead.. yet somehow the WoL is able to revive it. The WoL also becomes chosen by a Fairy is able to revive the arts of the Scholar. In all three of these examples, and there's probably more, the WoL is an exceptionally unusual exception to what would normally be a rule (arts is forbidden or dead). It would be no different with a Garlean WoL, they would be the exception to the rule 'Garleans cannot normally use magic'. Things are only impossible if you convince yourself of such and thus never even try.
What I mean by we don't need any more races is there is clearly a lot of factors that limits the team. Unless we get a new game engine and they can be more agile where assets can be made for all races, I don't see the ROI on this one. I rather them focus on the races we have, or add new variations on them (new customizable options etc)
Viera isn't needed. They should've stopped at Au'Ra.
The majority of Garlean NPCs are just Midlanders/Elezen with modified heads, so it's not like they'd be breaking the bank by taking what they've cobbled together and enabling it. Hell, they could just give the player the option to have a Garlean third eye on a Midlander body and call it a day.
I mean same argument been made about Viera and Hrothgar and yet here we are.
Playable Garleans wouldn't fit in the story without making special changes for them.
I don't really think the comparison to jobs really works either. The game pushes parties away from duplicating jobs, so in any battle content there will probably only ever be one white mage/azure dragoon/summoner/whatever anyway, and in the open world it's easy enough to dismiss others with your special job as using similar but still distinct disciplines. You are the black mage, those other people are just very advanced thaumaturges or sorcerers/sorceresses.
You can't really hand-wave away a bunch of super special magic using good guy Garleans quite as easily.

That said, a PvP mode or something where we could use that "role-playing" system they sometimes bust out to play as a Garlean with a variety of Garlean mini-jobs to pick from would be very cool IMHO. I do find the Garleans interesting, and have wanted some Garlemald inspired jobs for ages, was hoping this coming expansion would be the one but I guess that dream's dead in the water :( .
inb4 limited race.. oh wait we have that already.
The game pushes parties away from duplicating jobs? Uh, maybe in party finder. But in duty finder, where 90% of game content takes place, there’s always duplicate jobs and that’s a fact lmao. Constantly have double whm, or see pictures of 4 samurai’s 4 black mages etc etc. The thing you mentioned about distinct disciplines....that’s way more hand waving than there would be for adding Garleans lmao. Idk how another player capable of using literally every spell you can as whm would classify as a distinct job...
