I just hope if they kill off a character, they stay dead. I feel like the "they're dead but not really" thing gets over played.
Like I was happy when they did it with Nanamo because her death felt contrived and for 'shock' value. So I am glad they corrected it.
But then you take Zenos who got the same treatment, except his death didn't feel contrived, it felt meaningful, it felt like a good way to end Stormblood. I have no issue with him continuing on being a villain after Stormblood. But in doing so it made his death sequence meaningless. When he got his body back he just continued the same motive like nothing had happened. His death had weight for me because in his moment of defeat he finally felt something, that he finally got to call somebody 'friend'. This is a moment that could have gone two ways. Either, that's it, it's the end for him, at least he can die having felt something, like it hadn't been for nothing. Or finding a 'friend' brings him the drive to double down and stop at nothing. Unfortunately by taking both options they devalued the former IMO.
Given I was 'meh' about most of Stormblood's story it was one of the things I complemented once I got to the end of 4.0 and they took that away lol So I can't even say "it ended strong" anymore.
My fear for Endwalker is that they bring back Emet-selch. I adore Emet-selch as a villain, but I don't want them to ruin those last moments by bringing him back and cheapening what was a fantastic end. His time is gone and done.
If we are going to sacrifice anybody for 5.5, make it Lyse. I don't like her. :P She should have died with Papalymo when I'd have mourned. M'naago should have been Ala Mhigo's leader. But I'll take a death in 5.5 to make up for it and M'naago taking over. ;)
If I have predictions? I don't think we're going to see any of the main scions die. Especially Y'shtola and Thancred and we know Alphinaud and Alisae live because of the trailer and I don't see them killing them off either. Y'shtola and Thancred have died a few times now I feel they're just not going to kill them off. Nobody really is giving me any death flags TBH. G'raha had them leading up to 5.4 but he got to live and all his death flags have been resolved.
I stand corrected! I remember the shield bash but not the throw. I guess my brain always thought spear of the fury was actual spear from one of the other knights.
All I remember with Zepharin is him coming down twice for a dps check and to wipe the party after a certain mechanic was failed
There was a MASSIVE hate train for Minfilia for a long time. As a result, they slowly phased her out, and basically made a new more likeable version of the character. She essentially got replaced comic book hero style. (It honestly reminds me of when Wally West replaced the Flash in the comics, only The Flash didn't die. He was just stuck in the speedforce and eventually saved. Though both are beloved by the fanbase..)
Anyway..
I think it's entirely possible that Lyse might die. She's disliked by many, and Square might be willing to repeat a Minfilia to get rid of dead weight with her.
I honestly think the PC might end up sacrificing themselves to the aether in a final bid to prevent the untimely destruction. Leaving the world in peace, free from the Garleans and Ascians. But broken, damaged and in dire need of healing. Which ends the "warrior of light" arc with it. As the world no longer needs a warrior. His purpose fulfilled he moves on and ends his story with Hydealyn (spelling I know). Which I think would lead to the new arc in 7.0, the journey of restoration. How does one mend a world with no light and no dark?
Maybe Y'shtola's next fakeout will actually stick. Not holding my breath, though.
The twins are functionally the main characters aside from the WoL, so they're not going anywhere.
G'raha is probably safe, due to just joining the Scions, a convenient source of Allagan secrets from the Crystal Tower, plus his invaluable status to trusts as an All-Rounder able to fill any role.
Matoya's too useful as a keeper of whateverplot devicelost secrets we might need down the line. It's not like her age is gonna suddenly catch up, thanks to the time bubble.
I'm also not thinking that Sharlayan is a shoe-in for 6.0. I feel like it'd be a big enough deal that it could be the stage for whatever comes after in 7. Just my speculation.
They might do a fakeout with the WoL. But I cannot see them actually kill them. It is the player character after all. What are they going to do, have us pretend our character is a new, different character starting with 7.0?
Anyhow, as to who might kick the bucket. As long as it isn't Y'shtola I can deal with it. Though personally.. let them please, for the love of god rid us of Lyse, she should have died with Papalymo, foregoing the whole 'Yda is actually Lyse' shtick.
I'm holding out that G'raha will actually stay dead.
