you'll want to be at or near proposed INT cap (~310) and about 40 under proposed STR cap (~350), then stack as much attack and crit attack as possible. mega-potion of str should take you the rest of the way to str cap + giving more attack. then just buff howling fist with blood for blood and blindside and watch for big numbers.

my crits with pot (first howling fist) are around 1640-1700, and without it (second howling fist) they're around 1480-1600

I guess if you want them back, maybe you need to do a ls 'lets go kill some level 99 gobbies for lolz' event. People usually have fun doing it if for no other reason than that you can do it with more than 8ppl...and it's something different that 'which primal/dungeon today?'

as i understand it, the Dated items will be completely removed by 2.0 and the recipes to make more by 1.3. So it's for the best really. You can get used to not having them before your local Eorzean Optician yanks them away and says they're not good for your eyes.
