I've been sick of Fates since 2.1 at the latest, so no I don't really find them fun years later. Very much the opposite, in fact.

You're right OP, the community can make Fates really fun.
Having a big Fate train is akin to the fun of a big hunt train.
Kinda off-putting for the old areas though when you're with a crippled kit for a long time, but...
I don't really enjoy them, but I'm willing to do them if there is something I want.
Yokai was ok this time around thanks to BLU:)
Square got to learn from GW2 on how to fully utilize fates. First step being giving us an auto option for level scaling...
FATEs are ok in moderation, a quick diversion when I'm out doing something else. There are only a few varieties, with minor variations on those, throughout the entirety of the game. I think they should use some of the concepts from holiday FATEs to add more variety.
I like F.A.T.E. His music is awesome. plus the plot twist that he created the world is like WHOOA. Oh wait.... >.>
The issue with FATEs has always been their lackluster rewards. But a bigger reason people turned their nose up at them for so long is the overexposure. Throughout ARR and HW, practically any time the devs came up with an event or grind, you were FATE grinding. After two relics and the first Yokai event (which was MUCH worse grind wise), people were just fed up.
I've always liked FATEs. I'll stop and randomly do them at times.
But there are plenty of players who find them too repetitive and boring. They do them solely to get the rewards they want, then they stop doing them. if they feel the rewards aren't sufficient, they won't do them at all.
Someone who needs the reward incentive to do an activity doesn't truly enjoy the activity.
Nah I don't like them. Don't think I've done a fate in about a year.
