It’s a six year old MMO, there’s a lot of content.

The problem is in between expansions the devs implement MSQs that bridge the last expansion/game to the new one. So people who play this game regularly play through this till the next expansion is released. When you start the game fresh you are starting with 2.0 (1.0 was a disaster and was eventually rebranded as A Real Reborn) and you play that to about level 50, where then you will have the agonizing task of playing through the material that bridges the base game and the next expansion together. I have only been through that particular material, and I was not impressed. However, I love ARR and Heavensward is even better in my opinion. So the payoff is great games/expansions when you get through the agonizing parts. I have heard they are trying to find a way to make the bridging parts shorter so people can enjoy the expansions more quickly but that seems to be tough considering there is story there.
OP try not to take some of the responses too personally. Like WOW and practically every other MMO out there, FF14 has some of the most dedicated fans, and that comes with a certain amount of feelings that comes with anyone suggesting the game is less than perfect. I really enjoy this game...it has kept me coming back, and even though most people hate on the ARR story line....I actually enjoy leveling through the ARR campaign. FF14 is probably the most fun I have had with an MMO in all honesty.
I have been playing for three or four days in real time. I am level 43 on a Paladin but switching to Red Mage ASAP. The game has been a blast going through the story and dungeons. I enjoy the new player feel in a game where everything is new. I know when I get to end game it’s doing the same thing every day and right now I’m enjoying the ride.
How did it take you 200 hours of playtime to reach level 78 though ? If you're bored with the story, you should have skipped the cutscenes, and then you'd be doing end game content by now.
Like others said, it will be difficult to help you find a way to enjoy the game if you don't specify why you're bored with it.
