It doesn't have to be fake concept art... I just wouldn't reveal any of the parts that show direct moon/meteor type damage

Yea, that or maybe in all the time they were revamping these maps, they made a new area that is used to showcase the meteor. that would be cool.

which borders Thanalan on the east

As for dalamund, I do not think it is a cataclysmic meteor.

Something of that size hurling toward eorzea would wipe it out.

No, eorzea still will stand, but the land will never be the same.

Geographic anomalies, unexplainable beasts.

Rather I think dalamund is a super massive ball of aether, and will press in and merge with eorzea.
