Yes, a new thread indeed.
no thank you.
I'm all for it.
If it's optional then there isn't much cause for people to complain as they have no obligation to participate.
I've noticed that when a feature is suggested, a lot of people can be vehemently against the idea of a new option that they think will be mandatory. I know when starting, shout and yell are on automatically, but there's an active help pop up for chat settings. I would think that if implemented, there would be a Live Letter slide explaining how to turn it off or at least general navigation since a vet player would know how to use chat settings.
Light Mode was added, but it's not mandatory, nor was there an automatic switch to it. This would, in good practice, do the same. As are Cross World Linkshells.
Arise, thread! Arise!
World chat is a nice idea but it can be impossible to follow if the server is big enough. I played WoW on servers with populations as high as Balmung and the trade chat just scrolled constantly.
I'm not against the idea, just pointing out that on some servers it's not going to have the desired effect.
I'm all for it!
Population size shouldn't be a problem since most people would turn it off.
I always hated the lack of general chat in this game, because being part of a group is the main way to socialize and it gets very cliquish/plus if you don't wanna join an FC it's very lonely for an MMO.
And it would solve a lot of NN problems, since a lot of people want to be mentors just to have such a chat.
The entire chat system needs an overhaul.
From all the MMO's I played over the years (Gw1, WoW, Rift, SW:ToR and this) I liked Rift systems the most. You had this level chat (1-10 then 11-20 etc all the way to 41-49 and then finally 50). Didn't matter where you were, open world, dungeon, pvp, raid, … you always were able to talk in that chat.
Never had much issues with boths either, though I was playing since day 1 and was among the first of the server to reach lvl 50 and never really opened up the lower lvl chats again (only had 41-49 turned on to see if people needed help with some of the 'harder' things in that level pool).
Was also amazing to notify people when zone events spawned in another zone they weren't currently in.
Also more chat tabs please. In WoW I had like 10 chat tabs.
General, Party chat, FC chat, PM, a few extra tabs for LS chats (8 would be preferable for those that are in 8 bussy ones), etc...
Why are there so many special snowflakes so against this?
I hate the light theme soooo… I just use the default dark theme and let people who like the light theme enjoy it...
Not so hard is it?
I didn't play it back in the day, but nowadays (I quit a few months ago) the low level chat is just used as a general chat, since everybody has access to it, and the other ones are basically unused. Since anyway the population is so small.
And it's mostly a nice chat too, one of the raeasons that kept me playing even though the game was a mess.
