I am not gonna give a wall of text but i agree a 500% increase is ludicrous and should have been considered more carefully as a similar increase in say a sub price would end ff14 forever.

I honestly think 1,500 is a sweet spot for this as 300 was far too low and thus we ended up with a bunch of mentors who just ran Ifrit over and over to get to 1,000 instances. I think this sort of mitigates that a little. It's definitely not a clean solution as DPS mains will take a bit of a hit but I feel it's necessary.
What is the history of commendations - do they raise the requirements with every major expansion in general and every patch? It changed if I recall for 5.0 to require the level 80 class quests/jobs and 1,000 dungeons - now with 5.1 it's raising to 1500 commendations. When the next expansion comes out, do they plan on raising it to 2000 dungeons / 3000 commendations?
Stop sissy pulling as tank or do dps as healer and you get them faster. Or play BLM, I get spammed with these things to the point I have to run for exit portal because it gets embarrassing.
Commendations are nothing more than that, a commendation. Just a way to show your appreciation to someone that left a good impression on you. And it's complete up to you to give them out or not.
No need to worry about them upping the requirements every few years for them, I believe they did this just because it was just too easy to farm 300 commendations for mentor status, which puts the bar low when going for it. The amount of dungeons and job requirements comes pretty easily as you play as well.
Not to mention, there are rewards for getting them, up to 1500. And when rewards are tacked on to something, then most will try and grind them out, regardless of if they want to become a mentor or not. And 300 was easily gotten by spamming guildhest most of the time.
The increase in comm requirement is to get more people to play tank and healer and to add a grind to extend subs. You'll still be able to queue into the roulette on your tank and get Ramuh EX when you only completed it unsynched as a DPS a few years ago or queue as your SCH that's your only healer you got to 80 by leveling SMN and you'll still be able to farm comms.
1. Wait for low-population hours
2. Change your DF language settings to a language few would have selected
3. Separately queue at the same time as your friends for the same quick duty
4. Complete the duty and comm each other
5. Repeat until you have the required number of comms
Other pairs using the same trick? Use a standard comming system like tanks to healers, healers to tanks and DPS to each other. Results will be the same if pairs mix. Friends not online? You only need a lvl 10 tank or healer to queue into guildhests. Too many tanks/healers causing longer queue times? Use a DPS.
I am enjoying the tables being turned on some DF DPS. Until now they had no problem playing without any responsibility (low damage output).
Play exceptionally well. Comming a DPS for AoE use would be like comming a tank for maintaining threat. Why would I comm a DPS for doing their job if the tank and healer do theirs while dealing respectable damage, pulling big and playing as roles in demand?
