I can understand country restriction for real life prizes. There are a lot of issues to deal with on these cases and it is easier to just not deal with them at all and restrict to a few countries.

Exactly. If it were a real world prize with monetary value (like the previous one), then country rules would apply and restrictions would be understandable.

But they said the prize this time is an in-game item so the geographic restrictions seem odd.

At any rate, this is another Community Team sponsored event -- not Square Enix.

I appreciate that they are doing these things and trying to create fun for the community... but when we have a truly international community, leaving a big chunk of the population out is really unfortunate.

I think the real problem is that SE don't want to read every blog, so making this USA/Canada only reduce by a big amount the people that will participate and it's less work.

I really don't care that it's a Community Team sponsored event, it's obviously been approved by SE and is very discriminatory to the rest of their paying customers.

I'm afraid I cannot personally explain to you why you are not eligible for an ingame item that requires no shipping. I can, however, have a thought that there may be other region specific contests in the near future.

They said something along the lines of "oh don't worry, the rest of you will have a nice little contest-thingie as well soon soon" when the Valentine's Day love letter event was up. Yet we get this again. . . .
