This ^ - Most games I've played in the past have always had a global chat. Just can't understand why SE cannot have the same. The NN is a good idea but I would prefer to see a global chat that doesn't require you to be a mentor or sprout to join.

what grinds my gears is that Mentors are just kicking whoever they feel. I report Mentors at least 2 times a day for kicking someone randomly because of <insert subjective reason>
The Novice Network on our server isn't toxic at all, but actually a nice little community. It just sucks that at some point you drop out of it - I feel like the Novice Network is proof that we NEED a general chat with a profanity filter and restrictions for new chars (You need to have finished the ARR Story to participate - Until then, you can use the Novice Chat) so that gilsellers can't spam it.
If you can't actually get in trouble for kicking people for an actual reason, maybe I should just start purging every last bot in NN.
There is a profanity filter that is default on and is opt out. If people are subverting the filter, report them - that's actually against the ToS. Otherwise, there is no other stricter filter needed.
Unfortunately, it's run on honor. If you ask GM about the NN, you'll be told it's no different than any other linkshell, but with obligations to answer questions and invite new and returning players. Outside of that, conversation is pretty much up to the occupants. The only thing players can do about other players abusing the NN is report them for when they don't do the very few things required of them.
There's no guarantee that adding a global chat would remedy the extra chatter in NN, which isn't even a problem to begin with. If anything, adding a global chat, where 200+ other people can chime in whenever, might keep those same people speaking in NN because of exclusivity (only other mentors, newbies and returning) plus familiar names they already know. Seeing how global chat is in Black Desert Online, it tends to scroll by too quickly to actually have any meaningful conversations, especially if people want to troll with macros.
EDIT:
Add to the fact it'd provide an avenue for RMT to advertise their practices, whereas a majority of them are blocked from anything beyond ARR areas due to needing the expansions. Unless, of course, they add stipulations like trial accounts cannot use global chat, but fully bought accounts still could add to that problem.
