I'm a very introverted person and admittedly I do not have many friends in my friends list so I'm not inundated with messages and whatnot. However, I think having an invisible (or appear offline) option would be a good idea for those that just want to go about and do their own thing without having to interact with other people. If I ever feel like not talking and just wanna play MSQ or just do some side quests quietly, and I get a message from someone in my friends list, I tend to say that I'm logging off because I don't want to offend them by saying I don't want to talk to anyone. Not everyone understands the need to be alone when you have a social disorder and I have in the past offended people because of it. I guess it's one of the reasons why I find it difficult to make friends. I love playing FFXIV but I don't always want to socialise with others.
1) You don't know they are trolls or whatever when you add them
2) removing them from your friendlist doesnt remove you from their
3) Busy is like cutting your leg because it hurts sure it wont hurt anymore but i'd rather not rely on that
4) ignoring/refusing to do whatever your friends are asking for will end up with them no bothering asking you again.
Hey I know. I'm interovet myself, but that's how do I put this. Pointless? The busy icon works as intented, slap it on and no tells. I mean if people want to get ahold of you NOTHING is goign to stop them from sending you mail when tells don't work or whatever. If it's THAT bad either remove them/ log off/ or just tell them. " I'm not feeling well atm. I'll hit you back." Most people online understand HELL most people in this game back off from a simple " I'm good". I have to say this again.. PEOPLE DON'T TALK IN THIS GAME!!! LEtting the joke aside... I don't see the big deal with not using the busy icon.. it literally is the answer to your problems.
For me personally, if I see that one of my friends has the /busy signal on, I do wonder what's up, and my natural reaction would be to ask if everything is OK once I could reach them (either in Discord or once the /busy is dropped). I've had friends react the same when I have my busy tag on. Having the option to simply go invisible would alleviate the additional conversations that come from this.
As others have mentioned already, sometimes you just want to have a moment of quiet to yourself for whatever reason without having to field any conversation. QoL updates a thing. Generally they're nothing major, just simple tweaks that make the overall gaming experience better in minor ways. This would fit into that category just fine.
Good QoL feature.
