Are movie spoilers against the ToS?

Well, duh. Rule number one of not being spoiled is avoid social media. MMO is a form of social platform, and as with any other, there's going to be some that want to spoil, for funsies.

Still, I doubt that spoilers are reportable. It can depends on context though, if people continue to scream around when you ask them to stop - it can be considered as form of harassment.

Mmmm disagree There are obviously certain things that would warrant intervention, but I’d rather not be in a space so draconian that people are punished for slightly stepping out of line. For this scenario all I’m imagining us some grade school kids on the playground, and one spoils a movie for the others, who are then so incensed they run straight to the teacher and demand the movie spoiler gets detention for a week. Maybe it’s just me, but even amongst small children that behavior (demanding punishment for the other kid) would seem insane, and I sincerely doubt any kid would be given detention over movie spoilers. So it seems even more crazy to me that adults would want other adults punished for it.

There are many things that might be upsetting to varying degrees to different people, but that aren’t at a level as to warrant intervention from authorities. Everything shouldn’t be punishable. There is something to be said for being able to handle petty disputes or annoyances independently.

Exactly why I added "online games" to my list of things to avoid leading up to endgame.

That's why I wrote about the context. If somebody wrote spoiler by accident or just wanted to discuss - that happens, and there is nothing criminal in this. If somebody continues to wrote spoilers when you ask them to stop so it obvious they do it intentionally - you have the right to report them and it will up to the GM to decide what to do. Of course we can say "oh just add them to black list" but the issue is that people often do bad things because they know they will not be punished for them. Today they write spoilers, tomorrow they will insult the whole server just because (well in this case they definetely will be reported and maybe banned actually).

There is also quite thin line between "it's still a spoiler" and "it's not a spoiler anymore" and it's often a hot topic for discuss in different communities. Because if I will write something about even 10 level quest in chat - it still can be a spoiler for somebody while it's a 5 year old story. In FF community I mostly see position "avoid discussions about story in open chat at least until next patch". And well, since 4.57 was released few days ago, technically players can discuss Eureka storyline freely everywhere for now. But that doesn't mean that people can act like jerks and be ignored.

As a side note, I am personally okay with spoilers and I'm this kind of people who starts to read the book from the end before buying it. But still I try to not spoiler things to others if its possible - if I am okay, it does not mean that others are okay with this same as me.

Is it something you should report? I suppose only you can answer that Is it worth expending your energy effort and time to fill out the report? Then is it worth Having a GM do the same for an Offense that may or may not even be actionable.

Compare this to say what if you were in Walmart and you overheard a loud conversation that had said spoiler in it. What would you do?

The player was a jerk and I empathize with you, but also it's the internet as they say. Would be easier to just move on and watch your movie regardless.

If you asked them to stop talking about <insert whatever here> and they continued then yes you can report for harassment since they actively harmed your gaming experience. But if nothing was said prior how was that person to know it was Taboo to talk about and that is not reportable to me, do bare in mind spoiler can refer to something like the Ending to Super Mario Bros or the ending to Harry Potter but if choose to ignore someone asking not to spoil it then your are being a very unpleasant person *sips tea*

Yes i'm also always happy if the person that i disagree with doesn't make the rules that prevent me from reporting everyone for everything. ;)

I'm wondering if the people who think this is a reportable offense also run to the police and file charges if they overhear someone talking about that movie on the streets.

If the spoiler was announced over the loudspeakers by someone using the intercomm?

"Hello dear customers. Today we're glad to announce the end of the new marvel film: ... "

To be fair, why shouldn't it be?

The person is intentionally using the shout channel to attempt to aggrevate or upset other players. This affects their play experience (players will avoid the game to avoid spoilers). Under the new ToS they're free to make their own judgement and ban for it.

If people don't like that, there's a simple solution. Don't intentionally be a huge jerk.
