BRD: Is THM sub useful?

Thing is you can't realy single out how THM abilites and how exactly useful they will be without looking at the whole picture, you will 3-4 abilites set from CNJ that will irreplacable in most scenarions in the BRDs role of support.

Look at PLD, it can use MRD abilites of which there are only 1 thats realy usefull for the role of the PLD.
Our choices of crossclass abilites overall is very limited(and thats the idea), but like stated many times in this thread; there are plenty of abilites to fill up your 5 slots with, BRD even having a good selection to choose from.

Can't expect every crossability to be usefull thats not how crossclassing for jobs is intended by design.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong but isn't dark seal cross-able? Can't get online to check atm so going off the 1.20 letter which says it isn't exclusive. Might be useful if you want to use thunder or other nukes?

Also do we have a finalized list of what abilities BRD is getting? IIRC, the only list we've had was with that early vision for the classes and quite a few skills from that list were altered/moved/scrapped. Maybe the /thau sub hints at what skills we're going to be getting~

depending how the songs work, resonance could be really nice for trying to buff someone with a song from far away. If the AoE is centered around the caster like XI though (which I hope it isn't) then it's gonna be bad.

1. If anything but CNJ/WHM uses protect they will not recieve magic defense, so naturaly folks will still want cnj/whm to use it.
2. Sanguine Right can only be cast on other with sacred prism so BLM will not be able to use it on others.

I think most bards will use this set up

Cure, Sacred Prism, Stoneskin, Raise, and either Resonance or Sanguine Right, the tanks i play with generaly dont need Sanguine Right cast on them and with the BRD MP regen song I bet it wont be needed for anyone other than THM/BLM. So IMO the only really useful ability is Resonance for fights like Ifrit.

True though Paladin won't be able to use Sanguine Rite by themselves and as a Tank, Sanguine Rite is essentially infinite MP. Paladin will however be using magic of their own and Cure, so the MP is nice. True a Bard could just use the song but it depends on all of the variables we don't know about how the MP song works.

Yeah I agree and it is hard to tell, gonna be a tough decision with being limited to 5 cross class abilities.

That's interesting. If BRD in fact has high mage oriented stats [PIE, MND, INT] as you have mentioned then perhaps the class is optimized for THM offensive magic afterall. It is weird, but SE seems to be breaking the mold anyways. Where did you get that information? I would like to see it myself so that I may show my friend. :)

It was a very under-the radar change. During the Class Reform in 1.20, Archers mage stats got boosted surprisingly higher than any of the other melee classes, particularly it's Piety, This is also the reason for ARCs in your party having a much higher MP pool than other melee classes.. Partly it's because Shadowbind and Bloodletter is reliant on Piety, but I believe it's also in preparation for the Bard Job.

Naked except for rings I have 256 PTY, 210 MND and 172 INT on my ARC.

Whereas my THM has 254 PTY, 240 MND, 256 INT.


I'm assuming stats may change with a job stone, but that may not be true. Although this just furthers this OP's arguement that THM is a useless sub ( Damage wise ) Since their mage stats are high but their nuking mage stat is still low.

they can use mega ethers

only job that can use sacred prism+sanguine rite. Is it super useful for yourself no but itd be nice to hook up your pt with at certain times i.e. before a primal 2h

I would imagine the songs AoE around the Bard... I know it sounds annoying but it making them normal spells doesn't really fit the whole Bard thing at all.
