While that is true, the OP said "to remind SE that a majority of their playerbase", which is clearly false. There is no way to think this poll is unbiased simply due to the fact that people that already care about the genderlock are seeking these types of things out via reddit/official forums.

4,700 is an impressive poll turnout, I'll admit to that, but I feel its heavily biased. an unbiased poll would be something like a pop-up survey when you log into the game, which we cannot do.

Another thread about genderlocks? Go figure.

Thing is, those that do care about this would see that poll in time, those of us that do not care one way or the other would not. That in and of itself would make sure the pool of people voting would be much more likely to hold one specific opinion, how much that would move the result is impossible to say, the only thing we know is that 4711 players found it worth their time to find and answer this poll.
Personally I do not care one way or another, but I do believe that those complaining about it have every right to do so since they are part of the community.

At this point, I don't think the dev team can forget about the genderlocks even if they wanted to, at least without partaking in large amounts of alcohol or something

There’s also no reason to assume that the majority wouldn’t be “against genderlocks” in the vaguest sense, which is what this poll asks. So I wouldn’t doubt the results of the poll at all.

That’s not the same as asking if people want resources spent on ‘unlocking’ Viera and Hrothgar’s other genders though, the poll itself is flawed.

That poll is biased though
First of all it can be taken as many time as you want so it's not a very reliable metric
and people who don't care about the issue or the majority of the playerbase that never check the forum didn't gave their opinion.

It says almost 50% of the people that took the poll would change their character to either male Viera or female Hrothgar. If that poll was a reliable enough snapshot of a bigger playerbase it would mean with the introduction of these 2 race/gender combo suddenly half of the playerbase would be male Viera or female Hrothgar while every other 12 race/gender combos would make for the other half of the playerbase...

This is what I think when I see comments like this who overreact, "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE." This is mainly the problem everytime SE listens to people who want something, but not satisfied w/ it. Men in women's clothing for example, they got that right? Nope, it wasn't enough. How about nerfing difficulty on some raids year back because it was too hard, that also had complaints. Companies needs to just realize that you can't please everyone and make the game that they want to make cause nowadays it's a mess of double standards, money loss, or the brand is ruined for good because they pissed off the actual consumer base that they never listen to, but focused on those who complain over things like this.

Majority of player-base? Don't you mean the "vocal minority".

Your putting words in the mouths of other players. What YOU want is NOT what want. Not even close.

The only thing that needs to be "locked" is these gender locking threads.
The FF14 team has a vision and a budget. Deal with this restriction and move on. I'd rather they spend the resources on getting the game-play, encounters, and content right.

Maybe not the majority, but a large enough number to be significant at least. The majority is probably indifferent. That's how it usually works. Very few people actual support the genderlock though, because why would you? More options is good for everyone. The only people who vocally support a genderlock are doing so out of pettiness, because they know people want something they don't care about and want to trash it. :v
