My Idea For Fixing Blue Mage

As one of the resident blue mage "haters", even I understand that campaigning for change is 100% pointless right now. The devs are stubborn, always have been and always will be, when a question was asked regarding completion of the carnivale allowing access to roulettes, they said no plans.

It's a minigame not a job, and it will be for at least another 2 years before the incredibly slim chance of a rework in 6.0.

I'm not too thrilled about BLU being limited either, but yeah I won't hold my breath for it to become a regular job either. the devs clearly put a lot of thought and effort into making BLU what it is and they're not going to back down from it until they know for sure it doesn't work, and if eureka diadem is anything to go on, even if it doesn't work they'll keep on trying by adding more carrots on a stick till it does work.

BLU doesn't need to be "fixed" per se, but I still believe it can be made to make both parties relatively happy one day. But it likely won't and will just become the new norm for "hard to implement" Jobs.

This is exactly what devs didn't want, locking Blue mage out until it has grinded certain abilities. No idea what you would base the grouping on either, since they overlap, or you get pure tank (in caster gear....).

I'm wondering why include that stuff then, if all the cool enemy skills are banned. That's basically creating same basic versions of current tank/caster skills. Casted spell, dot, quick cast, buff, debuff, MP regen...

Would you? There is nothing making sure you have the skills. You can be lvl 80 with only couple of them in this case. And customization makes it absolutely impossible to balance, I repeat, for three roles. It's literally adding three full jobs without thoughtout rotation. Also, customization is diminished by banning all non-usual skills. Likely would become the class with reskinned version of same effect skills. Which is basically why they've been saying from the very start that blue mage cannot and will not be a regular job.

It's interesting that you tapped in to this. Even now we can come across players who don't have a certain skill (because it's from a job quest) or just don't bother to use their toolkit correctly, occasionally creating difficult runs in the duty finder. With BLU the majority of their actions will come from actively going out in to fights against specific enemies and learning them, in comparison to just leveling up and getting most of them for free (like current Jobs). So definitely it would be difficult to introduce BLU to party matchmaking content as it would be a complete wildcard on what actions that player would have.

I honestly don't see what the issue with requiring skills to use duty finder as BLU would be if they already make you jump through hurdles to unlock mentor roulettes or even just meet the ilvl for the latest content.

While there is the matter of people not equipping the right skills, a lot of them are just fluff that only varies in element or AoE radius and is pretty much only needed for the Masked Carnivale. It's unlikely people would to equip having to a mostly pre-made skill setup that includes all of the essentials and leaves space for some choices of your own.

Good way to make it work .
Problem the blue we get is a dps only. He will have problems tanking in mage gear. Healing be not a problem.
But if the let blue have any gear then it be good.

From my point of view, it wouldn't really "fix" anything about BLU.
BLU is, officialy, restricted for two reasons :

• Broken Skills because it's a big part of BLU being fun
• Customization that can lead to drama

And what you suggest won't change anything about these two. Sure you'd have some skill "required" for each role, but, unless your whole setup is required, you could still end with some drama in the "free" skills you have. It's the limited job equivalent of "I have the proper average ilvl, deal with my extremely underleveled weapon".

Not having a skill is not a "choice", it's a loss. BLU is different because it will have to chose its skills. I've used that example on others topics, but imagine all the drama we'd have if job could only chose 5 job skills from their list. You'd end with tanks not having their tank stance or their self healing, because they want to do moar deeps.

To the people think blueve even close to op go readthe skils. Most wil not have efect on monsters of higher level, boses have no lvl. Most boses are not efected by anything as it is. So they can let blue be in any df/pf content up to lvl 50.

Actually what people are sick of is the tone of your post. We could have a thought provoking and rational debate about whether BLU can be changed into what you want and whether or not that would be best for the job (many people don't think so), but you lost everyone with the word "fix". That removes any debate and treats an opinion as the most extreme level of fact. The issue isn't with the forum, it's with your post.
