I can't see this being a huge problem? The bots won't earn money any faster, and marketboard tax will mean that selling cross-world will deduct a portion of that money from them with each transaction. (Unless they fail to make, say, Limsa@Typhon not detectably a different location to Limsa@Tonberry... but there are still seller fees draining some of the money, just not the buyer fees at the other end.)



Anyway, I'm looking forward to the legal version of this: being able to pass money from my main character to my perpetually-poor alts.

I was also kinda worried about this.
I'm on balmung, one of the cheapest servers. It's a buyers market here, with everybody coming here and buying all the cheap stuff, our economy...things are going to go up more than they were before.
Good thing for crafters, bad thing for the poor people.

For Balmung in particular, it might still be “protected” somewhat by the sheer number of people wanting to go there? The explanation for the World Visit system did say it was still limited by how full a world was at the time, and you might not be allowed in if there were too many people.

"It shouldn't be too hard" is not relevant given the context of the live letter discussing that they investigated what it would take to even further merge crossworld markets together. Which is to say, they wanted market access to be available. This is a deliberate design decision to allow market access. "It shouldn't be too hard" is irrelevant.

Let's imagine, each server's market board is an online shopping site, for example: Amazon, eBay, Walmart, etc. As I read earlier, it doesn't matter the most whether it will be big or small servers that people will travel to in order to purchase items from MB. Thus I came up with a conclusion of my own, in which that people buy thing through their demands, and just like how we browse online shopping sites for the best item for us (high quality, cheap, effective), players will look up online for market board prices of each servers and travel to that place to buy should it has cheaper items on MB.

Imagine Balmung, a server that is heavy on RP/ERP, and clothes/glamours, cosmetics items like emotes, hairstyles are crucial. With such large demands, glamours and cosmetic items will be sold with high price in order to keep the economy balanced between price and demand. Say, another server that isn't heavy on those as much as Balmung, thus demands on glamours and cosmetics are low, but due to people mass creating glamours for some reasons, or people just happen to grab a lot of cosmetics and compete heavily on the market board for buyers, but since demands are low, so will the prices. When Balmung players notice it, they will rush to that server to grab the glamours & cosmetics cheaper than those from their own server. Or in another situation where new patch comes out, and in some servers people gets and sell newest glamours/cosmetics more than other players from others because they are lucky. Giving it a few days for the price to drop, and by then some items will be ridiculously cheap comparing to those of other servers by the time they start to get more common on MB.

Couldn't say if that's a good or bad thing but oh well, time will tell.

It's a bit of a concern on my realm since it means mats will get more expensive. We have tons of crafters but not quite as many gatherers, so mats tend to be on the cheap end where as completed items have a somewhat bloated cost.

You have it backwards. We've got lots of gathering bots driving the prices for raw materials down (items that are creature drops only being an exception) but few crafters actively selling. Lack of competition allows those crafters to set and maintain high prices.

If players get into the habit of realm hopping to shop for the best price, then the prices for crafted items here will go down as the crafters try to stay competitive with those elsewhere. The prices for raw materials is unlikely to change much since the gathering bot problem exists on every realm.

I doubt there will be that many players realm hopping, though. A lot of people don't even bother traveling to the city state where the item is being sold to avoid the buyer tax as it is. Most will stick to the convenience of not having to travel around much even if they end up paying more and only resort to realm hopping if the item they want isn't available on their realm or the price is incredibly outrageous. That's far more likely to happen with the random drop items like emotes than with the crafted items.

the most likely result is prices will gravitate towards an equilibrium data center-wide with bigger servers moving less because they carry more weight.

there will most likely still be differences since not everyone will have the patience to jump server to server price hunting for everything

Yea people underestimating how lazy players can be. Seen people selling npc goods on MB for double/triple the cost no problem.

I continue to be amazed at just how much people will pay for things - even with the shop selling price now listed in the item description.
