There's three caves, that all happen to have a dragon just snoozing away there, which happen to be a bit volatile and not 100% constant.

Actually, sleeping up high on a cliff sounds a lot more natural than plunking down in the middle of nowhere, if you're a creature capable of flight (and the wings imply they are). When you sleep, you generally don't want to be disturbed, and up high on a cliff it a great spot - normally. Not the dragons' fault that stupid adventurers keep plummeting down on them from above like lunatics.
