SE, please designate a Role Play friendly server!

That's not inherently a bad idea. But what I'm trying to say is that the RP community is small and if a server was "the RP server" as opposed to "home to the RP community," it would be emptier than any current server; this merge is specifically to increase world population. Any attempt by SE to declare a server as "the official home of the RP community" will be interpreted by the community as "the RP server."

Well you have to understand that we are not demanding something which hasn't already been done. World 10 has been designated as a hub for German/French players. Will that deminish the world population? If so, why would SE do that when trying merge servers? Same questions you asked can be applied there.

I don't think simply saying exactly what they said in regards to the French/German favored World 10, only for RPers on, say World 9, would make that world a barren wasteland. In fact one of the many reasons Besaid has a thriving community where other servers feel 'dead' is because of the RP presence.

You have a point... sort of. While RP presence may make it feel more alive it's really only for /say which factors most of it. Besaid in its own is a big melting pot of different types of players. RPers, non-RPers, elitists, casuals, hardcores, etc. the list goes on. It's known that RP servers tend to have friendlier populations but I can't really speak for other servers on that subject. Reading back I can't exactly say having a designated RP server is required, but being officially recognized as one (Or rather as a server where RP primarily takes place at.) could make it much easier for those seeking RP to find where they should go. And for those who just absolutely hate our guts to know where not to go.

There are very few players in FFXIV who are anti-French or anti-German. There are plenty of players who are anti-RP. In my opinion, that's a very stupid view, but to each his/her own. From a more practical standpoint (aka me trying to understand the anti-RP sentiments), a FR/GE hub won't affect the US or JP players much, as we're on at (generally) different times. The English RP community would be on at the same time as other English communities.

Don't get me wrong. I want you guys to have a designated server, but I think an official announcement would make it worse.

I'm confused at how an RP gathering place suggested by SE (rather than the community) would have less people/a small community, or seem "dead" when Besaid is doing just fine as it is already. An "RP only" server, perhaps would be smaller... but that's not what's being asked for here. I'd like to see SE suggest a server for role-players, so new rpers would know where to go if they want to find our community.

That's in interesting point, but currently on Besaid there are non-RPers who complain that they wouldn't have rolled on Besaid had they known it was an RP hub. I think an announcement would keep those people away from the server, everybody wins.

If you are saying that, keeping them away from the server will make the server a lot less populated, then I think we've got wrong ideas about what the general consensus with regards to RP is. I think MOST players don't care one way or the other, just like most don't particularly care about where the GE/FR players play.

A minority hate it (mostly because they aren't fully informed on what it actually /is/), others enjoy it when they run into it, but if they happen to be on a server with no RPers, they wouldn't miss it too much, while some WANT to be on a server with RPers specifically. Those three are a minority though, and losing the people who don't want anything to do with RP wouldn't effect the server in a major way, I don't think.

Besides, otherwise you WOULD have people who dislike RP on the same server with RPers because there was no announcement - that's not a good way to go no matter how you look at it.

It's a bit more complex than all this, though. I think many RPers are hoping to have content specifically geared to appeal to the roleplay crowd at some point down the line, and official recognition from Square-Enix is the first step towards that. I doubt things will ever get near the level of, say, FunCom, who had persistent 24/7 in-character VIPs roleplayed by GMs and officially recognized volunteers and monthly RP'd faction meetings organized by FunCom GM characters to which RP guild leaders were invited, but acknowledgement is a further step towards more widespread acceptance and legitimacy. (Though honestly, the best way to make a roleplayer happy is with in-game lore and setting details, which EVERYONE can appreciate. We're not all that different from the non-RP crowd.)

I don't really get the RP-hate either, myself. Most of it is based on stereotypes that aren't even true, and it seems... flat-out silly for one socially "iffy" hobby to further subdivide itself so it can have someone to bully. It feels like the somewhat-marginalized "gamer" crowd is finding an arbitrary subdivision within itself, trying to establish some sort of baffling pecking order so they get to be on top of something. As for me, I prefer to hang out around RPers even when not RPing since generally they put more thought into what they type and I don't have to wade through an impenetrable shroud of text totes typed liek this k ttyl bai, lolz.

I hear complaints sometimes about RPers spamming up the chat channels with thees and thous, but seriously... nobody talks like that, in character or out, with the exception of a notable few and they're generally regarded as every bit as strange as you'd expect. And can you honestly tell me RPers have a monopoly on spamming the chat channels? Really? Most RPers I know tend to avoid verbose RPs in populated areas out of consideration for others anyhow.

Anyhow, moral of story: You want to find a subset of the population with disruptive, annoying habits? Sports fans. They start *@#&ing riots!

I'll be serious for a post instead of trolling. Stereotypes usually have a basis in truth, and RPers are not the exception. I don't doubt there are a lot of RPers that do what they do in /linkshell or in unpopulated areas, but there are quite a few that do, enough that within the first month of the game's launch on Besaid my blist had around 80 of them and it still didn't feel like I had blocked most of it out. I've even had people attempt to send me random /tells trying to draw me into their RP shit.

Welcome to every other group in existence. You'll be judged by the extreme parts of your organization that actually get other people's attention. I would agree there are RPers that don't bother anyone, the ones we're irritated with are your group's Westboro Baptist Church.

SE doesnt need to designate an RP server

if you read alot of what Yoshi has said, hes leaving it up to the players to do so, if RPists care about having a server for themselves, they will band together and decide what that server is
