Not even a week. It's day 1 and there was already a train in progress when I joined earlier. Choo-choo! All aboard!

The first few weeks Eureka dropped I gave it the good old college try because I wanted to get in on the new relic weapons and I thought it might be something I could do when my usual tank buddy wasn't around. Chaining on WHM? Impossible. So I came on BLM. I managed to get into a group and spent three mind numbing hours there before I dismissed it completely and left hoping it would fail so spectacularly they'd do something else. Nope. More of the same crap. I can get behind grinds like 'run this man dungeons' or fates or complete these challenges etc. I won't get behind what they're doing with this content. Least of all at the cost of other things. If this is the 'new' and shiny stuff we're getting in exchange for less dungeons, they need to find more creative people.
Stop playing video games then. They are ALL about doing the same thing over and over for points.
Sure, but there are two very different kinds of doing the same thing over and over for points.
There's the things like dynamis, where you ran around an instanced, voidsent version of a city and killed all the mobs and NMs you could for drops that would upgrade your relic. As grindy and unforgiving as that was, it's something most of us from XI remember fondly as challenging content. Or Abyssea, which consisted of massive new zones that were easily double the size of what we have here for any one of the single locations, which had an interesting chaining mechanic revolving around building different types of lights and opening chests to gain experience and items. Or the Campaigns, which sent us back in time to help fight against beastmen who would throw themselves at our bases. Or the Zeni Notorious Monster system. Or Nyzul Isle which was superior in every way to Deep Dungeon. Or The side missions to gain rank in Aht Urgan (Mercenary). I mean, leveling itself was a grind beyond what you may have ever seen in your life but at least it was *interesting*. You got in a party and everyone generally had to participate.
None of these rewarded the AFK sort of play we see in Eureka. Dynamis was time-limited with extenders that you had to work to get to. Abyssea pulls never stopped and the place supported and encouraged multiple alliances to spread over the map (FATES really kill this style of play for Eureka). Campaigns didn't have trigger conditions - you just traveled around all the different maps to get to where the action was and it was rare that there wasn't a battle going on SOMEWHERE. The rest were all content that required your constant attention.
In short, SE knows how to make a grind that doesn't encourage Netflix-style AFK. I don't really know how YoshiP can think that this is good enough content, especially when BFA is launching this week, but he'd better sit down with Tanaka and humbly ask for some advice because he's getting it really, really wrong.
Blizzard is going to crush this game like it did XI and all this time and effort they put into the new coat of paint is going to have been for naught. If this is really SE's grand vision of content for XIV, I predict is goes F2P before Christmas 2019. Either that or they will slap it on the same life support XI is on when the playerbase drops like a rock (and it's not super impressive as it is even compared to something like Fortnite).
It's going down a bad road.
I'm playing Anemos for the first time now and I'm loving it. Why? it's been nerfed to the point I think is fair effort for the time concerned. it's still busy, but so busy my computer freezes. You have to decide if the content is worth your time and effort, and even the sub cost. If you don't like grinds that isn't for you.
I'm going to finish Anemos, then wait for Pagos to calm down. It's not going anywhere.
How about why are the only good way to get EXP is grinding very difficult monsters, in certain areas that can spawn NMs, have the instance be with tons of people.
But punish people for trying to kill everything together so only one group is getting EXP. This shouldn't be difficult tagging in these exploratory mission instances is assign and goes against how they made it. Fucking Clown Shoes man.
Eureka, AKA, "Remember Natalan wolf camps?"
Nothing ever felt threatening about enemies in FFXIV so I admittedly like the EXP loss thing. Albeit, i do miss my mount. I only began Anemos a few weeks ago and, as I have one job per character, only went after a single weapon, so gaining access to my mount at seventeen only to lose it again right away feels a bit like I have lost progress somehow. Oh well, the map is gorgeous at least.
much respect to all of you trailblazers in Pagos, your quest for knowledge will undoubtedly cause you hours of frustration and pain, but through your tears we proud few who will follow behind you will surely enjoy the fruits of your labor, and remember your noble sacrifice so that we can to blaze through Pagos without any of the same frustration you're experiencing right now, in about 2 months or so when you've unlocked everything and can make websites with detailed info on the whereabouts of fates, and their spawn time lol.
