A cursory look at high percentile statistics shows a 2-3% damage gain putting Samurai past Black mage on Chadarnook, equivalent on Guardian, equivalent on Kefka, and equivalent on God Kefka.

Samurai AOE by comparison is ass and that's likely the deciding factor for Phantom Train.

I disagree Blackmages have had many mobility changes that make upkeeping their rotation very easy even if movement is needed. Another thing to note is that their rotation isn't very difficult and neither is standing still that's a matter of learning any fight. Blackmage can attack from any distance which Samurai cannot, furthermore Samurai also has to learn where and how to remain still because of Iaijutsu casts which can be interrupted by the boss being pulled out of range by Tanks which Blackmage doesn't have to worry bout unless they get LOS'd which Samurai also have to worry about. We have to maintain a more strict rotation which is constantly changing from being mobile to stationary. Blackmages also lose less from death as they can regain all their MP from restarting their Enochain and going back into Blizzard then back into Fire when a Samurai dies they loss all their buffs and resouces Jinpu, Shifu, and Kenki which takes several GCDs just to get back.

Samurai AoE is bad? I mean they have an 800 potency AoE...

Hell, you can literally see how good a job's AoE is here in burst situations just from Phantom train, because no one's hitting 8k-9k on their max parse there without heavy add padding.

I took a look at that by those statistics it shows Samurai going past BLM on Chadarnook and Kefka. However I fail to see where you're getting the equivalent on God Kefka and Guardian Black still wins in those areas. Also agreed Samurai AOE is ass.

If they make a pure dps job like SAM so potent that it's automatically on par with the raid dps of jobs that buff the party, then it would just be meta to stack a bunch of SAMs and get maximum results without needing to time alignment of utility things like Trick Attack. They can't really make things completely balanced unless every job offers raid buffs or none of them do.

The meta speedrun thing is still only really relevant to a small fraction of top players running new raids basically undergeared. For all the midcore people who are still trying to get their first clear of a savage raid several weeks after the world first people, with higher gear level than they had, then it shouldn't really matter what jobs they bring and more about learning the fight mechanics. SAM could already clear anything and now it has a little potency upgrade.

Sorry, you should be looking at 95-99th. Those more accruately represent well optimized runs with a little RNG favor, while 100th/max is heavy stacking and perfect runs.

Play it getting high output, then get back to me on its mobility. There's a reason it has one of the largest skill gaps and it's the least played job in savage. Less played than even sam.

Blm should not have even been compaired in this thread. Yes there was Qol improvements but Sam gets punished far less for messing up as do litteraly most jobs except maybe smn as well.
Sam has the mobility. I am not stating that the buffs are any good, just saying do not bring blm into the conversation, lol

Comparing top parses is not accurate either because most top monk parses are speed kills with optimal party while most top samurai parses are not played with optimal party. Who would want to do speed kills with samurai? That make numbers look bigger than they actually are.
