ARR/Heavensward Fishing RNG could use a nerf.

Prices for minions and beachware/beachware components have shot up significantly due to the lack of farming/access to their specific fishes, Olgoi-Khorkhoi/Gigantshark ect. I consider them useful because you can make a decent profit on them, the problem is that even trying to do so is an absolutely frustrating experience.

The major difference in this comparison is that raid groups can get better and improve their play, where-as fishing is just weather or not RNG decides to screw you. Even if you are fulfilling all the requirements for fishing you still likely won't get the fish in a reasonable amount of time.

My only gripe with fishing is weather. Unspoiled nodes were bad enough but atleast its every hour at most.

This is so much true. Clearing 16x evenings for a chance to catch a single thing just isn't worth half my monthly subscription. In same duration I could get better over time on other things.

The whole reason you can make a decent profit on them is because they are so hard to get. Make it so anyone can get them with decent gear and the value will drop sharply.

I have had my issues with fishing, I admit. Needing not only the right weather conditions for a catch but a whole string of them is one. However, if you are seriously suggesting old content needs a nerf because your ability to make gil is being harmed, I'd argue:

a) You are wrong. Because your profit depends on rarity.

and

b) That's insufficient reason to take the challenge out of content that others are enjoying .

And there's a point where the rarity of an item is outright ridiculous, to the point where it's rare because there are far better items to farm over it for profit. My profit right now depends on entirely unrelated items because as much as I'd like to include these in my regular crafting schedules, I can not due to the outright insane RNG associated with it when so many alternatives are just outright so much better. It is not the ability to make profit that is being harmed, it's the lack of ability to even make an item in the first place that is.

I have yet to see anyone in this thread say that competing against layers of RNG is fun or actually challenging.

The solution is simply not to do it. When so little do x activity, they make adjustments. My sanity is worth more then some completest objective.

Even Coils and Alex savage can be unsynced now. That doesn't take anything away from the people who cleared them when they were current content. It's natural for an MMO to have a bigger focus on latest content while making older content more accessible for those who just joined and want to give it a try but don't want to be stuck forever on it. I don't see how fishing would be more special than raiding and why it should be left out from that formula.

The few fish that are used as crafting materials are easily obtainable once your level and gathering is sufficient to catch them. The rare mats obtained only through fish desynthesis is one of the few ways for fishers to make gil. These mats are not any different than say crafting mats obtained only in raids, the Aquapolis, retainer ventures, etc. Also, the gathering rate for certain items can never get past 95% percent no matter how high your gathering is.

Obviously, fishers can never gather fish at the same rate that the others gatherers acquire their mats, but far fewer recipes require fish, and the ones that do only take 1-3 of them on average. But if I want to craft something like an adamantite ingot, I need to gather from a regular node, an unspoiled node, and a legendary node which are only available if you grinded the scrips to buy the folklore tomes. If I want/need HQ, I can guarantee 2-3 per trip with my abilities, but coming away with more than requires luck, or multiple trips.

In short, I don't feel gathering via FSH is unfair in comparison to gathering via BTN/MIN.

Fishing is not required to complete any content other than fishing. You don't need it to progress the MSQ, unlock a 24-man raid or 8-man trial, etc. You are correct, not everyone has the time to sink into it, but it is a pass-time. This is an activity that is not really meant to be completed in a matter of days or weeks. Another thing you might want to consider is it's not like the devs add fish every patch. The log is finite, and once you catch a big fish, there is next to no reason to go after it again.

Are there any fish retainers can't get?

I only made the comparison to express that you can't ensure victory through brute force. I was not comparing the skill required to clear the content.

There are many they cannot get, and they can only bring back fish that you have caught yourself. Fortunately, they can bring back nearly every fish that's used for crafting mats.
