This system is an utter embarrassment. Friend and I were loading into the game and both of us got hit with a 5006 error. By the time we logged in, everything was gone save a few smalls in the Lavender Beds.
I wish instanced housing was an option for FCs. Maybe something like a house on a very tiny island so that one can decorate a front lawn (not having a front lawn seems to be one of the main issues that people have with instanced housing)
Right now I'm on the same boat as you. I started a new FC last spring. We're very small (hard to get members when you don't have a house,) but we were looking forward to new housing. Unfortunately the "Log In" button in my patcher was unresponsive and by the time I got it to work I was already in a 20 minute queue. I logged in and every single plot in every single city was gone. I'm crushed and I'm sure the other members will be too when they log in.
I am just going to repost this here.
Really, the fact that people can defend this housing system absolutely astonishes me.
It has nothing to do with dedication.
It has nothing to do with how much gil you have; how much you have made.
At the end of the day, it all boils down to luck. I was ready and waiting at 5:00am CST on the dot--a friend and I both--and we were hit with lobby server errors just trying to get to the data center, and a 1,600 queue. I had all the dedication in the world; we both had all the dedication in the world. But dedication doesn't save you from lobby server errors. Dedication does not save you from the launcher log in button NOT RESPONDING FOR A FULL 2 MINUTES. Dedication doesn't save you from poor server infrastructure. Dedication doesn't save you from a 1,600 player queue that you wouldn't have had if the game had not crashed, and the launcher not froze up. And this was not an isolated event either, nor was it related to poor internet.
This is a complete embarrassment, and the developers should be ashamed to continue to implement such poor systems. And people that support it--that want to support the "specialness" and "exclusivity" of this housing system--are not any better. This would not be a problem if SE would just admit that this housing system is extremely flawed, and scrap it complete. Move to instanced housing. I don't know how to make this any more clear to the developers:
This housing system is god awful, and you should be ashamed to continue to do NOTHING about it. And no, apartments are NOT the answer to a house. They never were.
Honestly? My FC, when the Guild Transfer system was mentioned, basically agreed that we all were willing to transfer, as we're mostly on Balmung for each other, but the fact of the matter is that transferring probably wouldn't help. From what I'm hearing, housing is selling out massively on other servers, too. It's getting ridiculous. The fact that the XIV team made a HUUUUUUUGE deal about breaking TEN MILLION, not a MONTH AGO, but they can't afford to add more wards to housing? Are you kidding me? Funny, Lord of the Rings Online has been F2P for YEARS --- they use a neighborhood system (similar to the district system), and guess what? It's not a major problem for them and wasn't even when the game was booming. FFXIV is one of the only pay to play MMOs that still matters, and they are RAKING in the cash. Even for heritage players who are paying $10 a month, if you do the math, and say that, okay, fine, 10 million accounts, let's say only 2 million of them are active. Let's be SUPER generous here. That still means, that even at only $10 a month? They're making $20 MILLION DOLLARS A MONTH.
Sorry, not sorry, they can afford a few more servers for freaking wards. I'm tired of the excuses, it's disgusting, and they should be ashamed.
Honestly, make the wards instanced, OR even make our yards & houses instanced, and let the stupid ward system go so that literally MILLIONS of players aren't screwed out of a major part of the game. I, like Damian, am getting depressed, defeated, and devestated.
I've been saving every single penny of my gil, not paying for teleports, not buying ANYTHING off the MarketBoard if I don't absolutely have to, constantly scrimping and saving, to try and buy a small plot of land.
Stupid me. Should've known. I couldn't even log in fast enough, let alone buy fast enough. And it's just.....devestating.
That's the whole point. It boils down entirely to sheer dumb luck. Everyone who has a Shirogane house now has one because they were lucky. That's the only reason, and for a AAA game in 2017. It's absolutely pathetic. ESO, Wildstar, Black Desert, all Free to Play MMOs have a better housing system than FFXIV.
We knew this were going to happen and it happened. What were you expecting? After this 4 years nothing has changed for housing.
