I hated the fights before this patch. 2 blinks and the mobs were dead. It was not fun at all. Now everyone gets to blow up mobs together and it's not a trivial borefest.

If your idea of fun is button smashing X like a hack & slash game, then this is the wrong mmo for you. Perhaps if you invest more time to learn about combos you might have a change of opinion. -

Final Fantasy XIII's battle system really didnt require too much thought...just faster reflexes. And maybe not even that, since all you really had to take care of was one character and manage paradigm shifts.
As for XIII-2, I cant comment...but that really wouldnt work well in an online multiplayer scenario. And as far as whats here now, we arent even near max cap i'd imagine, so you dont want the bosses to be too hard.
Once they introduce more combos, and more advantage points for said combos (directional attacks) then i'm sure you'll be moving around enough to ensure an active fight. Not to mention special effects being overhauled in the next update (the whole reusing animations for this patch and being fixed next time post). -

I think we should hold all opinions about the current battle state until they finish it all next patch. We are only at like 50% of what they are looking to do at the moment. FOr all we know, they could have it so you can switch from class to job mid-battle with a single button push, which I think would be pretty epic. I just think we shouldn't pass judgement yet given that they are still working on it, although I can see why people feel the need to now with them getting ready to charge us.

For me it is the entire game that still feels slow. Changing gear, waiting for NPC's to appear, teleportation, Airship cutscenes, action delays, crafting (uhg!)...everything is so sluggish and the UI is so unintuitive especially with Crafting (ugh! again!...6 clicks to start a crafting leve...really?...c'mon man!)
I think maybe I am fortunate to be on a low population server and prefer playing the lone-wolf cuz I don't think my PC could handle a full party fighting a diremouse let alone Ifrit.
We can only hope for small improvements until 2.0 is out on new servers with the new graphics engine.
