They say a lot of things(which is usually followed by ignoring the issue or taking it back*see housing demolition*).

I'm not too bother with having flying animations or not for the older mounts, although if they do it right like the op is suggesting would be great.
What I really really don't want to see is another farting turtle!!
It looks ridiculous and makes me feel a bit dizzy.
