Who said 8 was protecting 7 from anything? 8 got 8 because 7 got sent to bed without supper by 9! Guess who's next??

Motive: 7 suspected 6 of having an affair with 9.

Who is protecting who? 8 protecting 9? If 9 dies, 8 becomes the new number next to 10. I'm not exactly sure how it works in number world, but I'm pretty sure 9 was planning to murder 10 as well. Promotion time!

I suspect the +8 serves as an increase equivalent to two pieces of gear for the equivalent level. They could have easily picked other numbers, the way they could have made the level cap 40 or 51. They choose a number to balance around, in some games that's 10, others it's 20, some it's 100, and then do their adjustments.

I suspect the +8 serves as an increase equivalent to two pieces of level appropriate gear. Exclusive stats that even if someone was wearing the same gear with the same materia, the "specialist" would always have a little more edge. And with the +10 (whether this is 8 + 10, or replacing 8 for an end total of 10), would further boost the specialization. Like having a free +III materia equipped, at level 50, several different III materia equipped.

I get it! It's because 8 in facts is a spy and tries to make love with 9, but then is only a spy sent by 7 in order to let him 8 9.
It'll still be, that 8 might want to kill 7 2 because 8 wants to be the 1, as for desires of power among all other numbers, and also because 7's intentions are limited to cannibalism, while 8 has higher prospects for the future.
But for 8 to reach 1, he has to fight his 7 girlfriends. After fighting with 6, 7 falls in love with her, and he changes his plans and fight all 1's girlfriends (6's lesbian girlfriends) in order to prove his love to 6.
