Pros and cons of smn and blm

you can say Blms big numbers are the actors on stage, while Smns dmg is more backstage. ^^

yesterday we farmed Zurvan and there was a random Blm which seemed to know what he was doing and me as smn.
Our dmg were more or less equal and we switched in the parser-dps-check back and forth depending on who made the most movement fails.

But we almost stick together dmg-wise in every run. Both 275 Anima and I guess (crit/ss) BiS.

I main SCH and my main caster dps choice was BLM for a very stupid reason: since I play on gamepad both my SCH/SMN hotbars are very similar and since I play SCH for most of the time whenever I switch to SMN I end up pressing wrong buttons thinking I'm still on SCH LOL.

On a more serious note though, like some people already said SMN requires a lot of pet managing and button pressing which I already do a lot as SCH, so I like playing BLM to change the pace a bit. I also feel I have more control over how much damage I'm doing as BLM than as SMN because I don't have to worry about pet's dps.

And the feeling of landing a crit Fire IV that kills the boss is awesome.

but have you tried a crit deathflare which kills a 10+ mob instantly - feels pretty satisfying as well :o

Deathflare is the reason why I bothered to do all HW job quests for SMN right after I finished my SCH <3

oh and eiko dont be afraid of pet management - you'll get used to it pretty fast like playing with a tamagotchi :3

actually you can say the basic atk is just like another dot cause its on a perm autocast, than you have a oGCD aoe skill and one utility skill - not thaaat much to handle if you see them just as a extension to your own toolkit – that being said I have to manage my fairy positions way more manually as my egi positions ^^

It's not about being afraid, it's more like "I'm so tired of managing my fairy as SCH that I don't want to have to manage my egis too", I'm just being lazy haha. You have much more control on your dps as BLM pressing less buttons imo.

Do you actually have data to back that claim up? I am of the opinion that SMN is superior to BLM. I recommend that class more than I would BLM and this is coming from a former BLM. Even then, personal DPS isn't everything, just look at MNK.

Well I've got BLM to level 54 at this point and honestly its pretty much everything I said earlier...

The two of them do similar amounts of damage. BLM higher in Single Target, the SMN higher in AoE.

These are two excellent caster classes and well designed.

Just take a look at FFLogs or the SSS Dps calculator to see that a blm is capable of higher dps. Smn requires MUCH more skill to do high dps than Blm. The fact that Smn does more AoE and Blm does more ST does not mean they do the same damage. You literally confirmed what I said. I never claimed that Smns did less AoE, but as most raid and EX primal scenarios are primarily ST, a blm is going to do more damage. I didn't deny that they are both excellent and viable, I even confirmed that in an earlier post. But saying a Blm and Smn do the same damage is not true, and you shouldn't say it is, especially when you confirmed that they do not in the exact same post.

+1 to SMN superiority.

BLM's numbers are pretty satisfying when you get it right and hit those crits, but it just can't compare to the flexibility, freer movement and utility SMN offers IMO.

After playing SMN, Enochian makes me want to fling myself out a window.
