Honestly I have never changed Main Class in any game I've been in with the exception of Everquest. There I started out when the game released with a Bard, and after getting it to 40th level... I switched over and became a Rogue, the bard was just too weak for my tastes. And the Rogue allowed me to explore the world more without being in a group. Since then... I rarely if ever switched to anything else.
Everquest: Bard switched to Rogue at 40th and worked the Rogue up to the cap level.
Dark Age of Camelot: Champion (when they nerfed it I left the game)
FFXI: Red Mage... did toy with the Black Mage because I liked it lot too.
Jade Dynasty: Vim (Kinda lilke a Drk)
Neverwinter Online: Spellstorm Mage (Basicaly a lightning mage), Did actually switch to the Master of Fire (a DoT style mage)... both of them AoE mages... left when they Nerfed Mages.
FFXIV: Summoner... plays just like the Red Mage in FFXI... but might toy with the Blm too... still... SMN will remain my primary.

Been a floor tank since ARR early access but will be switching to Samurai once Stormblood arrives because I'm a sucker for katana. XD

I have ten 60s, one 58, and an absolute garbage class that I hate playing at 53 (but will still level because I need the Grandmaster of War cheevie). I often bounce around amongst my properly geared jobs for a myriad of reasons but can't really settle on one. Stormblood will be adding two more to the table that I'll probably level to 70, on top of the rest. My compulsive need to level all jobs for the achievements and scratching my itch for varied playstyles refuses to abate.
It also allows me to know each and every job on a fundamental level (except for the job I don't like, I don't think I'll ever understand or enjoy it).

I usually keep my tanks leveled with tome gear and use the alex nm/ crafted stuff for everything else. Then after I get the tanks to max ilvl is just mix and match until the next patch.

I play healers, namely WHM. However, I do lack a DPS class I like for when healer spots are filled in PFs. I used to play bard, but then those casting bars were added. If I wanted to play a caster, I would have played a caster, so I'm down a satisfying alternative.
I'm hoping I will like either SAM or RDM.

I started out just with Black Mage, and then later tried out Dragoon. Originally thought I'd just stick to those two, since in previous MMOs I'd never been able to get even one class to level cap, nevermind two or more.
Now I've got everything at cap and all pretty nicely geared to boot. The more I played the more I found I enjoyed playing just about everything. Except SCH. I don't really do much with SCH.
As far as prioritizing what I gear, I suppose my "Main" focuses are still BLM and DRG, along with DRK now too. Of course thanks to gear sharing, a geared DRK means a geared PLD and WAR too. And a geared BLM a geared SMN. I'm also trying to gear up my MNK for Stormblood, as I plan to focus on it and SAM when the expac hits. Hallelujah that they share gear, makes things easier on me. Sharing accessories with DRG is also nice on that front. Then NIN, then Phys-Ranged, then Healers I suppose.
