It's generally not a good idea. Just go to any site like reddit to see how abused it is. I wish upvote/downvote options were eliminated entirely. I feel it is a system of favoritism, and a big reason why I don't pay any attention to it. You can always just ignore a post, or poster.

Please no, I hate forums that use dislike -system.
I was very active poster on World of Warcraft forums, and pretty much ended my activity there completely when they added dislike -system there. People just hiding behind their "thumb down" -button instead of giving any sort of counter-arguments.
