A new Tank and Healer wouldn't be likely to make DPS players switch from DPS'ing to Tanking and Healing instead. People will main one job, usually of a role they like. None of the people who tank that I know of have said, "I'm dropping WAR/PLD/DRK for SAM," yet. They all intend to keep Tanking, because they enjoy tanking.

It won't. I can see it now. The "overhaul" will be nerfing AST/SCH and WAR/DRK and nothing more.

While I'm sure that even if there was a new tank barely any DPS would switch to a tank role (at least permanently), I can't help to feel sad that healers and tanks get no new "toy", just a rework of the existing jobs that we don't even know what it'll do.

Oh well, here's hoping that the PLD rework is interesting.

Aren't they getting rid of cross class abilities. So what happens to WARS and DRK when flash/provoke can't be cross classed to those classes?

I would guess that they would get their own Provoke or something. Since Provoke is a vital part of tanking with the tank-switch mechanics.

It will be a shortage until everyone gains 20 more levels on their main, and then 20 more levels on SAM. I'll be one of those players still playing as my tank(s) during that time (I was still playing PLD during the phase of Gordias).

If I read (and understood) correctly, Provoke will be categorized as a "Tank" ability instead of a GLD ability, so any tank will be able to slot it

Funny thing is, I dropped BRD for NIN (due to me being a NIN in FFXI) when NIN released. I then dropped NIN to go PLD/DRK (since my NIN is a tank in FFXI). This round, I already know I'm staying PLD/DRK (PLD for learning new content and Savage while DRK is for almost everything else).

I liked SAM in FFXI, but not enough to make it a focus. I prefer tank and support roles, though. I'm not really dps-savvy.
