I don't see the problem.
You paid $15 last December to be allowed to participate in the event.
Those who didn't (because they either took a break or were not into the game yet) now get the chance to buy ALL the rewards that event offered for...roughly $15.
Exactly the same as if they actually paid their sub during the event.
Why are people mad about this again..?
The only way they would ever stop doing it is if people stopped buying it.
And if people stopped buying those items, they'd probably stop making them, rather than simply giving them away for free!
I, for one, never buy anything from Mog Station.
And as someone else says, SE is a business and they need / want money. Doesn't matter if it's need or want. Money and more money will always be involved.
We just need to get used to it.
The same reason people were upset that SE didn't give us the Chinese items for free even though the Chinese players had had to pay real money for them, too. Or when people got upset with having to spend money to obtain the Maid/Butler outfits even though Japanese players had needed to spend money as well. It's dangerously close to entitlement, especially when you're talking about items that SE could have (and probably should have) just left 100% exclusive.
A lot more than just two were like this.
But over time the items restriction were lifted and were able to be sold.
I am much happier that they offer something unique each year, rather than rehashing the same stuff each time. Variety is a great spice, and even if this leaves some people without specific items at times, it only gives them a sense to be creative with their decorating.
Well at first they used to allow people to buy items from the last previous events from the V1 but since then they heard the cries of the whales and watched the beautiful spectale of these majestic creatures swimming around, expulsing wades of cash everywhere.
How could they come back to give away past event's items for the sake of an happy celebration when they witnessed such splendor?
If you missed it the first time around, too bad. You should have subbed and been around. Snooze you lose. Man up.
