Maybe I need help with reading comprehension but I don't see where it says what will happen to existing gear, only recipes and changes to future gear.

Well, any Felt Robe (Red) that you have now has the exact same properties as a 1.20 Felt Robe (Increases Mind) (Red). They'll just change the name accordingly.

Do expect that to happen, unless they change how it currently works; dyeing = regular crafting recipe = materia destroyed on process.
