For the new healing class...

I personally would love the opposite, a damage oriented healer like the chloromancer of Rift who depens on his damages to heal (using a mono or group stance that convert the damages on the mob into heal on the targets)
I find it refreshing and, considering healers are, in most cases, "supposed" to dps (according to other people), it could be pretty fun ^^

The main problem I have with Red Mage as a healer is that all of the healers are more or less Red Mages already (having a mix of attack and support magic) out of necessity (due to MSQs). The Cleric Stance alternative makes it sound better, though it seems pretty similar to what Cleric Stance already is (without the ability to toss out a "oh shit" heal if CS is still on cooldown...which, admittedly, is rather unlikely).

technically youre right, pretty much healers can deal respectible damage and heal, thats like 2/3 of a redmage right there, personally id like to see a job that reverses CS to boost its healing, but that idea seems far out in the woods, or sea of jade or beyond garlemald

Honestly as concept of healing i would see a healer that have dps skill that the more they're used the more his healing are boosted and on the opposite healing spell will boost dps, each will also reduce their own potency

To put it simply, the more this healer will heal the less it will be potent (+1% dps -1% heal stack up to 15)
Then once you reach 15 (or before as you see fit) you go in dps with a 15% potency decreasing the more you attack (same -1% dps and +1% heal for each spell)

In the end a healer requiring a good balance between dps and heal
The healing malus even at -15% make heal still potent to cure a tank

As i see it, red mage fit that concept

I think you would enjoy a more aggressive healer who relies on stacks gained from doing tons of damage in order to convert it to health. Energy Drain already does that for Scholar by draining blood from the enemy. Maybe the new healer could drain blood into an "Orb" that loses power over time, and have each healing spell enhanced by the amount you have in it. This would make them comparatively weaker for solo healing but much stronger as an off healer since they could basically recover the entire team's health if they were able to do a ton of damage before a big hit.

Trait and cooldown abilities can usually cover that like it does for sch

But anyway i know my idea is completely impossible because it require many factor and also less healing oriented healer
And also it's an hybrid concept which is the less possible concept to be acceptée since yoshida stated that he don't want them :D

On a side note, i will admit starting wow on a casual side way and gztting my life with disci Priest
But... even if the concept is enjoyable, having a 3 skill gameplay is not my cup of Tea so...
I stay a FF14 fanatic for that matter (loads of skills to use)

I get your idea, but it won't work..
Basically, you'd naturally want to maximize the damage buff, right? nope, because any heal you do is a DPS loss by default, meaning it's useless to put any extra effort in getting the damage buff.. therefore, for the player the important thing is the healing debuff. Similarly, you'd have the same thing with damage.. only the debuff is important for you.. It'd just mean fighting a penalty, which isn't likely to be fun.

Get rid of the debuff part, and it might work a little, but I think it'd be a relatively passive system that hardly influences spell decisions.

I think if FFXIV let there be a 5th role in dungeons - we could play around more with the idea of having a 4th support role like DNC and Geomancer into the mix. Green Mage etc. As heals. Also other fan favorite classes for a support class.

Maybe if the OP's idea for a class had a pet of some kind?
