Patch is called "Soul Surrender"...besides the jokes, it sounds like something *bad* is going to happen for sure

As long as that "bad" wont be just glossed over in the expansion and solved as a side thing...(yes I find the solution to 2.55 sad). You know if Patch 3.4 really will be about the WoD maybe they should have made the last story about Darklander and get us some inside on them..At least this would have been way better than another story that just makes me feel even angrier at SE for killing Haurchefant...
But hey at least its nice to know that he was not that good with papers :D...
Like Anonymoose, I was expecting more Scions from the Tales, but perhaps unlike him, I was pretty disappointed that we didn't get more than just Alphinaud and Alisaie. Not that I don't love those kids, but getting some insight from any of the other Scions like Krile would have been really great.
I don't know that we can call it milking when Haurchefant was already an important secondary character throughout the entirety of HW. In other words, if any single NPC was bound to get a story, it was him. I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see him make a comeback in the future as our guardian angel, though I would personally prefer it if we didn't get that kind of magical boost.
@Tenkuu: Maybe milking might not be the best term to use there, but I just feel like they love to use him to create more emotional distress. He is the only character that got two stories as far as I can remember, we got a lot of items for him ingame and a lot of sad scenes about him. It just that I don't know how to feel about it anymore. He was my favorite character in the whole game and after his death Eorzea feels so dark and somehow it kinda threw me out of the ingame story. (Just cant enjoy it that much anymore) And now next to all that sadness the last story is about him again but we barely learn anything new. (And that lost letter is such a tease T_T)
I am happy that we got the minion and things like that and that they did not threat him like they did with Moen or Ysayle but at the same time I would love to trade those all in for him being alive. Maybe I am just too salty that they killed him...(Strangely Ysayle was my favorite female character and yet I am at peace with her death..)
At the end they taught me the lesson to never get emotional invested in another character again d^^.
Eh, Haurchefant doesn't have a two Tales uniqueness, imo. The predecessor to Tales from the Dragonsong War featured both a Nanamo and a Leivelleur twin article. (Tales from the Calamity)
While it's definitely true Haurchefant is the only person to receive two stories in the same series, he certainly isn't the only person to receive two anniversary stories. (If that makes any sense?)
Sorry should have been a little more clear with my post. I did mean it as "two tales in one series". :) True main characters like the twins and other scions might get more stories along the way but it was just a little strange to read two stories of one character in one series. I really love his character so it might sound a little strange, but I wished that they had featured another character in the last one, for example Hilda. (Maybe its just hit me so hard because it will probably be his last story that we will ever read :(..)
I don't know, I think you had the right term with milked - they're really trying too hard in their push to make you care for him.
For those who are relatively neutral or perhaps don't even like him for whatever reason (I find his advances creepy and the Japanese version outright disturbing), it's almost too much. Our character has shown more pain over losing Haurchefant than we did the entire Scions in 2.55 - and those are characters from 1.0.
3.0's ending and the end to the 3.3 sidequest were really more than enough. At this point it's almost like it's beating a dead horsebird.
