I play as SMN for PVP/PVE, SCH if necessary or lazier/ want quicker queues.
I find tanking the most fun but my latency isn't good enough mostly for me to tank optimally in (might eat AOEs and annoy the healers) :(
-
I play for fun, only thing that is in the way of my fun, is the fact that we can not gear up all battle classes at the same time.
-
WAR and MNK are my go to for PVE, both are very fun for me and I'm equally skilled at them. PLD is my default for PVP. It just feels so right there. But in general if I'm going to get efficient at it, I'm having fun with it first.

I play as NIN on my main as it's both my most proficient and fun to play job. Even though I do tend to switch it up with MCH and MNK, I always go back to NIN.

Play mostly as paladin, my most fun. Otherwise, what's the point?
Besides, with enough repetition anyone can become skilled at anything in this game.

It really depends on the type of content.
Expert Roulette and 60s Roulette, I will go in as Summoner or any Healer simply because it is more efficient, and lowers the chances of disgustingly long runs, and provides a safeguard when it comes to deaths. With a premade, the same job pool is there, but includes Black Mages.
Level 50, I will go on Black Mage, Summoner, WHM, Scholar or whatever I am leveling. I care not for efficiency when I am leveling, but do when I am farming tomes.
Trial and PvP, I do whatever I feel like, but will fill in PvP if there is no healer.

I hate the obsession with speedruns, so... I play whatever I feel like. Others should do the same. A couple minutes is nothing to get fussed over.

I main WAR, play SCH because I enjoy it, and I have a geared dragoon and summoner I also enjoy playing on. Fastest queue is always tank, but I often just get tired of tanking duty finder, and I always have to tank for raids and most of the content I run with my static. So I'll often queue on SCH which is still pretty fast because I'm decently geared on that job and like to dps as much as I can.
Lately I've been joining mentor roulette queues on dps jobs, also for fun. Sometimes I've had to leave the duty and requeue as tank when a tank leaves. Apparently there's been a lot of tanks dropping duties lately.

I strive for efficiency enough as it is at work. On FFXIV, I play whatever I consider to be fun at the time.
That isn't to say I don't do my best to contribute to the party in group content, but I do the best I can in the role I feel like playing.

I have fun when I can play efficiency.
If teammate limit my gameplay (like an incapable co healer), then I will not have fun.
Otherwise, I can have fun with all the job :)
