Post-Palace Questions (SPOILERS)

I dont really get it.

Edda lost her fiance Avere, but kept his head.

Later, she invited Paiyo Reiyo and the Warrior of Light to her wedding with her dead fiance. In fact, she just created a voidsent with the head of Avere. Some hints are making clear, that she wants the Warrior of Light to be the new body of Avere.

After killing voidsent-Avere, she fall behind into the pit. But she reappeared as a ghost in front of frightend Paiyo Reijo with a evil smile in her face.

Now, she appeared again as the final boss of palace of the dead. Just kill her, grab some rings and everything is fine? What?


1. Wait for Warrior of Light, until he regained his full power? What?
What happend with Eddas purpose of searching a new body for Avere? She just waited until the Warrior of Light reached the 50th floor (with full strength of course) and then try to kill him/her? If you want to capture or kill someone, you would do it within the first floors, wouldnt you?

2. What was Edda doing in the palace all the time?
Tam Tara Hard was full of notes and hints from Edda. Not enough, the entire dungeon was full of failed experiments. But Palace of the Dead is just empty. Edda is just following you, but nothing happens. There are no notes or enemies. It doesnt seems like Edda was living here for a longer time. I thought Edda went to the palace to continue her researches of reviving her dead fiance Avere. But there is no information about it.

3. What happend with Eddas Ghost after Tam Tara HM?
I thought she was haunting poor Paiyo Reiyo for a longer time. But Paiyo seems to got a bit scared from her and nothing else happend after that. Maybe it must be the lighting, but Eddas Ghost looks quite different (white hair maybe?). In palace of the dead, she got her brown hair back, with one eye left and I missed her evil smile. I thought, she got more crazier or something. Did we defeated real Edda, but her ghost keeps wandering? What was the point of scaring the Lalafell, when you just leave him alone?

4. What about Avere?
She got a small minion which looks exactly like Voidsent-Avere from Tam Tara HM. Where did it go? What happened with Avere after all? Didnt we killed him in Tam Tara HM already?

5. Edda is dead, palace of the dungeon is not.
Whats the point of going any deeper in the palace, when Edda is already defeated? SE said, they want to add more floors with future updates. But with Eddas death, the palace lost its main villian.

6. Ascians?
Robed figure. Please no Ascians again. I m sick of it. Please not : (


My personal conclusion: There is a chance, that Edda is not really dead! Maybe some kind of her ghost must be still "alive".

I want to bring some of my thougths into this and try to answer some of Caitlyns questions.

The PotD seems to be an gelmorrian ruin, but there are some things that don't fit at all, like the magic portals and some other things like the voidsent like creatures in the last set of levels...

1. I thought the leveling in PotD is not like it would be in Eorzea lorewise, it's just a game mechanic.

2. In my speculation PotD is after Tam Tara HM so Edda fell from the boss arena in Tam Tara HM and died her ghost (she has white hair when you meet her) haunted the poor Lalafel and the WoL for some time and then she got necromanced. She has no own will and can only act like her master wants it.

3. I don't know how the necromancing works but it look like you have to fuse a body with a spirit, so her haunting spirit seems to be fused with her body.

4. The minion she has seems to be an Ahriman within her lost eye (fits to the Ahriman lore). Avere is dead since Tam Tara NM and in HM we fought an Ahriman within his head. So there is the possibility to meet undead Avere somewhere deeper in the PotD.

5. The Palace wasn't created from Edda nor from Gelmorra in my opinion. We have to go deeper and find the true creator of this nightmare. Like other said i think after level 31 downwards it's no longer in the real world more like in an other dimension or pocket dimension.

6. "robed" can mean much, i won't bet on the Ascians but it's one of the best possibilities. Another i favour myself is that the necromancer in form of one of the highest, at the moment unknown, voidsent or an mhachi sorcerer with voidsent powers. In the end the figure behind PotD don't have to be evil or misguided, he can also be misunderstood, isolated and unworldly.

I think the Edda arc is no done, Edda is dead, her spirit is saved and the poor Lalafel has back his peace...but what lingers in the dark corners of the PotD and gathers corpses to revive them?

I dunno about her wanting to use our soul exactly. I think she just wanted to make Avere as strong as us. Us appearing in Tam-Tara HM at all came as a pleasant surprise: “Look Avere! 1 & 2. The Edda we faced in the Palace was not the same Edda in Tam-Tara HM. By that I mean, something is, or rather was controlling her. The biggest hint on this is how she does not recognise us at all when she finally decides to fight us, "It would seem our guest has overstayed their welcome..." Whoever brought her into the Palace most likely appointed her as a guardian of sorts.

3. Unsure about Edda's ghost. For players who beat Tam-Tara HM, there was a 1% chance she would appear in Gridania. I wonder if she'll stop appearing for players who beat the Palace...

4. It died with Blackbosom.

5. The story is to end at the 100th floor, where we'll see who is bringing the dead (exclusively lost souls, it seems) into the Palace. Since Edda said 'robed figure' instead of 'hooded figure,' who knows who it could be? Ascians, Voidsent... maybe Hades?

I still find it strange that the Edda as a ghost that we could see in the city states had white hair and this one had brown hair. Especially since being able to see her ghost means that she did die in Tam Tara. So the only way this makes sense was that she stayed in this world as a ghost after her death, someone found her body and somehow brought body and soul back together and controlled it. But it still would not explain why her hair turned white as a ghost. @_@

And in the german text she mentioned a wizard that did this (Magier) so at least in the german version I did not get a hint that the ascian would be behind this (and hopefully are not behind this because it would be nice to get a new enemy)

Someone mentioned that the French text mentioned a Wizard/Warlock as well. I wonder if that's the same for Japanese, too.

all right, just looked at a vid of the Japanese cutscene, and Edda mentions a 魔術師 (magician/wizard) there as well.
So English is the odd one out (again)

Neither do I - but I personally assume that the whole thing really was just fanservice without a whole lot of thought behind it. I mean, why is Edda even a special case down there? There are several dead people which seem to be quite different from her - they didn't get any new looks or abilities, they don't re-appear as ghosts or recognize you after dying and they seem to be confused and driven more than controlled.

So my own take on is a mixture of "This place has ded peeps" and "Yo dawgs, I herd you like Edda". Why and how? "A wizard did it".

My personal theory:
I dont know much about ghosts or curses or something, but... what if, when Eddas ghost is actually some kind of manifestation of her wish to be reunited with her dead fiacne Avere. To do so, she still need the soul/body of an adventure. That means, her ghost is seperated from her soul and her actual body, but still have some kind of own personality. Its more like a wandering presence, haunting other adventures for their souls/bodies to make her wish come true.

Now back to Eorzea. As far as we know, Bahamut is a primal. Primals were just fanciful imitations of the originals.

Bahamut was one of the great wyrms. During the Third Astral Era Bahamut fell to the invasion of the Allagan Empire under the reborn Emperor Xande. In her grief, Tiamat was manipulated by the Ascians into summoning him back as a primal—something she quickly regretted as the Dreadwyrm was nothing but a crude imitation of the original Bahamut.

So, what if Eddas ghost is a primal? An imitation of the original Edda? A manifestation of her feelings (dispair, sadness, madness), as we killed her fiance at the end of Tam Tara HM?

It sounds weird, but it would explain why her ghost and her (real) appearance in the palace of the dead is so different to each other. It would explain, why you dont need to finish Tam Tara HM first, before entering the Deep Dungeon. It would explain, why she is mentioned as "Edda Blackbosom" and not as "Edda Pureheart" in the 50th floor. And maybe her ghost will still appear in the big city states, even after you defeated her body in palace of the dead.

Could it be Paiyo Reiyo (a wizard?) who ressurected Eddas body? What do you think?


There is one thing that still bothers me:
Let me say, you re new with A Realm Reborn.
1. You met Edda before entering Sastasha Normal (your very first dungeon). Everyone is alive.
2. You met Edda (and her group) after Tam Tara Normal, Avere is dead.
3. You met Edda alone after Copperbell Mines Normal, where she want to start a new life.
4. You met Edda in the 50th floor of the Palace of the Dead and defeat her. She is dead, right?
BUT: 5. You met Edda again (but more lunatic and mad) in Tam Tara HM, including her creation: Voidsent-Avere. After that: Her ghost shows up.

How is this possible?

Different chronology - Tam-Tara HM "happens", whether you do it or not, in ARR. The deep dungeon belongs to Heavensward and therefore, everything in there happens after ARR.

It's how you can still go and do the ARR Dragoon questline while Estinien is, uhm..."preoccupied" in Heavensward. The questline "happens" in ARR, regardless of when you decide to do it and newbies more or less will have to piece that together themselves.
