Jumping doesn't really bother me one way or the other as far as the concept goes, but what he showed just looks ridiculous. It's early development though, so I guess we'll see how it turns out in the end.
What really gets me is how some people are so ecstatic over it without even paying attention to how it looks or how it's implemented. Is everyone going through some checklist of features that supposedly make a good game, marking things off without really looking at the quality of it?
Personally I see this as a useless feature unless we're receiving a situation where we need to jump over a giant chasm. Just because every modern mmo has it, doesn't make it useful. Yes we have a few problem spots that can be fixed with a little mapping. The maps themselves are changing so they'll be more fine tuned. You don't need a 6 foot jump to scale a 2 inch pebble in your way.
Just walk around.
It's also personal preference of yours that jump be in the game, am I not allowed to have my own opinion? Why do people think not having jump is what makes a MMO "archaic" and "barbaric?" Why does WoW, I don't care if you don't like to hear it, you know it's true, have to be the standard for every MMO? Just because the millions of Korean and Chinese knockoffs(racism is not intended) all follow WoW in an attempt to cash in on it's success doesn't mean this game should.
Just because SWTOR, Rift, GW2 and Tera can't think of anything new but small tweaks to the WoW formula, which isn't entirely original in itself, doesn't mean that other MMOs can't try something different. It's not a "MMO standard," it's a stagnating formula.
It enables movement in three dimensions.
It allows me to clear small obstacles (small fences, cliffs, etc.), allows me to scale larger objects with carefully timed jumps (mountains, buildings, etc.), and lets me clear small gaps between objects.
I can do it in real life.
It's fun to do while you're waiting around for people to get their shit together so you can actually do content.
Wow.
You removed my entire post?
Why not just edit the quote like you usually do?
Whatever, I'll just post the important part.

The issue is in the fact that in MMO's characters tend to jump around everywhere all the time and become annoying very quickly. Especially when that jump is high.
I'd solve it with a jump stamina gauge, but we'll see how this works out.
