I think she was always assumed to be a Lalafell, what with the name and all (and the prior assumption that the Mhachi were all Lalafell themselves). As far as I know, though, it's never been confirmed one way or another in-game.

Not just the name, its also the fact that she is an apparent expy for a certain pigtailed Tarutaru in XI.

Actually, up in Calistoferi's chamber, there are three of them, if you look down a bit. So that discredits the Twins theory a bit.

That being said, the idea of it being one of the Twelve is still rather reasonable, especially given the hyuran depicitions of Nophica and Nald'thal we've seen so far.

I suppose the statues could be female, it won't be the 1st in in FF history to have a rather masculine-looking female sorceress; see: Adel

But what I have noticed in the VA saga is that so far the 2 final bosses have been female: Calofisteri and Echidna. That and the well-known Mhachi mages were female: Cessaire and Shatotto. Then there's the Tributary of the White Maiden (whatever that it)

Not only that, but Scathac seems to hold a large enough territory within the Void to be considered a "Queen" and then there's Cloud of Darkness and lastly the BLM relic weapon: Lilith apparently belonged to another Voidsent Queen that was defeated.

The White Maiden is a river, north of most Mor Dhona and south of most Coerthas. Though I have never stopped to ponder the reasoning for the name, I always assumed some sort of rapids were to blame.

Lets us not forget that the voi sent in the coffer Diabolos stole was based on a celtic queen whose name I can;t seem to get right.

Considering I have no idea what Shantoto looks like in XIV. And we did cross through an area dedicated to Shatoto in the raid run but there was no noticeable depictions of her there. My only other assumption was a prominent figure that may have had something to do with summoning, controlling, and harnessing the void. It may not even be a meteor but a ball of something emitting flames. Only resembling the tail of a meteor in depictions. Those dark energy effects do about the same thing. The object does after all resemble the top of the Stardust Rod.

Story wise we were sent to retrieve the Nullstone used to control void sent, and it turned into a rod. So maybe the stardust rods design was based on whatever this figure was holding or the null stone. Maybe it is a depiction of the Nullstone itself. Who exactly lore wise was responsible for creating the Nullstone or the means to control voidsent? It would make sense that years after Shatoto's breakthrough. He'd made the Black Mages what they were by learning how to control the void. It would explain the statues being mostly in the pyramid and Ark so far..

Isn't the Stardust Rod explicitly designed after Shatotto's Meteor summoning, though? Like, that's the entire lore behind the weapon. I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that the meteor on top of it represents the one she called down.

There are some connections between Mhach and Ala Mhigo.

Both have proof of highlander population.

Both have Celtic names, Highlander surnames and Cessair, the architect of the void ark.

Both have an apparent focus on destruction.

And if the statues depict Rhalgr (which is my current bet) both have some form of relation to said deity.

My current (and loose) theory is that the flood caused somewhat of a split in mhach society. Those who sought to better the use magic and gain more knowledge went south and formed bela'diah, a city with a focus on the balance of Knowledge and Magic. These were primarely lalafells. The other group, the more destructive one, abolished standard magecraft and went the more martial route and travelled east forming Ala Mhigo.

Both Bela'diah and Ala Mhigo are built upon Allagan ruins. I do not think thats a coincidence. If the Yafaem Saltmoor became unsuitable for living after the flood, the residents might have looked elsewhere for a source of technology. They might have looked for Ruins.
