Well probably that they wanted housing to actually be houses in a neighbourhood instead of the "room" that was FFXI. People keep saying about they want instanced housing... how could that even work? Do you not want to go outside the house? If you just want the interior then the apartments are coming (3.4?), but if you want an outside to the house then what exactly would be around your house if it was an instance? A fake neighbourhood? How far in this fake neighbourhood can you go? Or should it just be a view? Seems a bit lonely? Maybe it's because I've made many friends at the marketboard though...

It's because the currently housing wards are always active, always running because someone is always in them and if you add it up, there's more housing wards than actual zones in the game (excluding individual dungeon instances which run on separate servers!). They may/may not have it set so the ward shuts down if no one is using it, but given how many AFK people I've personally seen in housing wards, I doubt many of them get shut down.

But then we badly need sufficient houses for everyone, so maybe houses with no neighbours/fake neighbourhoods in the background are the best we can hope for :(

They still only see each user as a list of values(name, stats, position, rotation, current animation, etc)on the server side. Nothing more than a bunch of code. It should not be any harder on an mmo to have instanced housing than open world.. Its like dungeons(thousands of people are in them all over the world all at the same time but you only see your version of the dungeon with your party(four people is a lot less data to transfer than the whole of the current housing areas population[you only recieve certain data from people in your scene[think /say chat range] its coded to be efficient and not waste bandwidth throught something like a scripted filtering system[is this person near me? show them my say message, but if not then dont send anything]), but much much smaller in size content-wise(3d models and scripted events) and distance. They will add those for the next 7/8+ years most likely. I and many others who likely play FFXIV could build it right now all by our selves. Unfortunately I/they don't work for square or know how their particular code is set up and i doubt they'd want to share it with complete strangers. Square should be able to do this. Most likely the real issue is people with different opinions on the subject and people who already have a house and would riot if something happened to it. Its too late to change unless they can bribe the whole community into agreeing.

Sorry for the really long post and i hope its even understandable. Im a passionate fan of this game, and an indie game maker. Its just so frustrating. Also, Im really really sleepy. I pulled an all-nighter lol. Ill review it later after some sleep.

TL;DR: Its probably the most efficient way to make housing to date. Square is a very capable company that could/should definitely know how to do instances properly. They most likely dont want to anger customers. That is most like why theyre taking forever to fix the issue.

Personally, I think a single housing ward would be cool. But more so like a town that everyone shares, with shops(Market board too) and a park, beach, etc. Then have housing separate but connect them with the town parts doorway.(lines of blue dots)

How do you know they are on seperate servers? Even if that were true i doubt a single 4 man instance gets an entire server to its self. That seems weird to me.

Sorry, you misunderstood or I phrased badly. The dungeons run on separate instance servers, but not a server per instance. Basically they don't run on the same servers as the zones from our world is what I was saying.

I've yet to hear one good reason as to why a player needs to own more than one house. It's selfish at best and greedy at the worst. I support one personal house per account.

Gardens.

Generally things take about a week to grow and often seed recipes need multiple other crossbred plants to make themso it can literally takes over a month to grow things like thavnairian onions from scratch. Blood peppers are another that take a long time to get to the final product if you do it all from scratch/don't buy seeds off the marketboard.

Small houses only get one garden, so buying a second, or third, or fourth house for 4-5 million each (depending on your server) for the additional garden is totally worthwhile to save all that time if you can afford it. Then you can grow multiple crossbred seeds at once, vastly reducing your total growing time.

Have you heard any good reasons to own a personal house at all? Most of those apply to owning multiple; RP, gardening, decorating, etc.

I'd like for them to have wards in addition to instanced housing (I always imagine snagging a floating island from the sea of clouds for personal use so you get your own outdoor space and can ferry it to different locales for a scenery change). I really do enjoy the neighborhood feel. Wildstar gave you your own little floating house island and let you set visitor privs which was nice (and omg the furniture manipulation <3) plus you could add rock quarries and such to mine from now and then (another way to attract guests as you could share that as well). On the other hand there was WoW's garrison which just segregated players from each other, although with little to no differences in garrisons there was little reason to visit another unless someone was spawning an invasion. Giving players the ability to get housing even if they can't be in a housing ward (or if they don't want to be) would be a nice option.

When supply is so limited, it makes sense to limit the number of houses a player can own.
Buying multiple houses for the extra gardens, airships etc. is bordering on an exploit; if the devs hadn't intended a limit on how many of these as single player could have access to they wouldn't have put the restrictions on how many we can put down on one plot.
Owning multiple houses for whatever reason is selfish as it's denying others the chance to own even one. Account-bound housing shared between all a player's alts would be fair.

Owning a personal house for whatever reason is selfish as it's denying FCs a chance to even own one.

On the bright side "New housing additions will also come in Patch 3.3, including more plots of land and adjustments to housing prices." Let's hope they start those reverse auctions at realistic numbers; at least 10 times what they start at now.

There is so much hypocrisy in that statement. How about the people who are not apart of nor want to join an FC? Should we just toss them by the wayside because they are individuals and not part of a group? How is that not also selfish?
