I'm glad the teleport system exists, it's very nice to explore some location and travel to it the very first time, after that it just becomes troublesome and boring to do it again.
Comparing this to WoW, since people went there, i don't know how the state of traveling is now, but when i played it was very time consuming a bigger waste of it, specially when you wanted to keep hopping between areas, i much more prefer this system.
What they could do is improve the choboco travel a bit, teleport is only for major areas\outposts (and it's good it stays that way) and i've seen a few tiny settlements that don't even have the chocobo porter to it, it would be nice if it was added.

I honestly liked how teleports were before. With the entire...anima? or whatever it was called? You know when you could teleport a certain number of times that charged up like the leves back during 1.x era.
It allowed for enough teleporting but teleport too much and you were forced to run around the world. That said, I really don't get that feeling in 2.x/3.x that zones are large and vast. Well...I do get it in some 3.x zones(until I unlocked flying for that zone).
I loved when people traveled more on foot or on chocobo. It leads to interesting situations and interactions. Like while traveling, you notice another player almost dieing from a mob and you decide to quickly dismount to pop up a heal, or quickly dispose of the mob. Or back in ffxi, you sometimes died and hoped that someone happened to be in the surroundings to cast a raise. This player interaction is what I'm missing.
Even things like boat/airship travels caused people to relax and occasionally start a conversation with those on the ship. People don't really realize it. But placing things in a game that makes us pause, tends to lead to more player interaction. Put a group of people together in a single room and they will eventually interact.
I tend to notice a real lack of player interaction in FFXIV. It has nothing to do with community as it is more a direct result of how the game is.

small zones and lalafells, kill immersion, too; and most players.
the silly part is that every quest asks you to teleport between every corner of the realm, and make it sound like a grand and tough journey...ya, no...it took a few second - and when you get there, the NPCs have already been waiting for you, for a few hours - annoyed that you took so long.
So if aetherytes are lore, then why do NPCs expect you to run from Dravania to S-Than, and back? then to limsa ->gridania->dravania, for good measure.

Play Void ark if you want some Immersion

Teleporting isn't the problem. The problem is there's nothing to do in the world. Hunts were a nice attempt at fixing this, but they didn't really stick and weren't exactly fun - it was also one thing to do in the open world which doesn't exactly come across as... y'know... variety. It's fine to have instant access to the places you want to get to, but there should be a reason to roam the open world outside of the leveling process to attune to Aetherytes.

That and NMs that dropped rare but not godly amazing gear in 1.0. They would drop cool items of w.e their level was... So maybe 2-3 people at most were camping it if that... And the reapawns will be quick. Can\\'t believe I forgot it cause my current title is NM hunter.
They really should bring back the NMs. As long as they don\\'t drop FFXI shinanigans gear they were never a problem

Sorry, I can only enjoy the same landscape with mobs in the distance so many times until I'm sick of it. I got places to be and things to do.

This game simply would not appeal to alot of the casual base if we had to take a 10-15 minute run everytime I wanted to go somewhere.
Spookyghost has it right though. Why would I run through zones i've seen 100 times already if there isn't anything for me to do? Just set me up with a 10 minute load screen instead, then at least I can get some reading in while I wait. It would essentially be the same thing.

Personally I enjoyed the boat ride myself in FFXI and would welcome to option to do it again, likewise with airship. May not always be the most exciting but I found it relaxing and a good chance to talk to people. Could even throw in the random fate that pops now and then while on them, not interested in the fate? Go in the cabin and stay safe. :3

I'm annoyed enough with both Coerthas Central and Western Highlands only having one Aetheryte
I wouldn't want even less in the future
