Of course you see it better youre a mod over there. I have and alot of balmung beyond has a lot of issues with that site for the egoes alone. Agree to disagree.

When I googled "FFXIV roleplay" two years ago, that was the first site that was listed. I joined RPC to find roleplay and it has been a great resource for me.
I would definitely say give it a try. As others have mentioned in this thread, it is a place to network, read some written fiction about various characters, find like-minded people when it comes to what you are looking for in your RP, get a listing of RP LSs and FCs, and also look up listing of RP events.
Majority of the members there are from Balmung, but there are other a few LS listings for other servers too, along with others that were mentioned in this thread.
I hope you find what you are looking for!
There is a RP server? I came from a RP server on Rift (faeblight) and I miss that kind of community. Not everyone RP'd there but many did, and often I'd walk into people acting out scenes and it was great (and of course the E-RP sessions were awkward to walk upon... ; ; )
Bonus was people who could stay in character for a whole dungeon and actually play well. That was always fun and I'd play along. :P
I also believe that there are players on Jenova who are trying to create a community for RP as well if you want to stick to creating a character on an open world. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest..._count=&order=
These two linkshells seem a little active (50+ members each)

Mostly the same users. One of those linkshells is advertised on the RPC (ffxiv-roleplayers.com) here http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=14988
In general, as I said before, your mileage may vary and you may like the RP you might find on Behemoth or the others. Again, Balmung has a large community. Some have grievances with others and it's not all on the RPC. I've seen people have issues over Tumblr and Reddit etc. Not everyone is happy when someone does not want to roleplay with another because their styles do not match or they do not want to RP with a certain character. Not everyone wants to be in an FC that is dedicated to only specific persons' plots. Not every LS will agree with how people set up their combat Rolls to game the event etc.
Just as in the real world, not everyone will want to hang out with the entire world. You have your friends and you want to go play with them. Sometimes you'll meet another friend and you add to your circle. Not all circles will intermingle. Sometimes friendships break up over the most ridiculous things and sometimes you just get left alone.
You know, I'm actually not a moderator. And I haven't had moderator access on RPC since about October 2015 after a wave of anti-moderator sentiments by users. I'd ask you to define what you mean by an "ego", but these are not the forums for that type of discussion.
I like the site because I put time into making connections with people I enjoyed playing the same with. Call it a clique if you really want to. I'd prefer to call it a circle of contacts and friends, most of which do not engage in many of the threads you've come to not like. If a hidden section of the site is bothering you, I'd recommend opting out of it. It's why the choice is there.
You also must not read many of the anti-moderator threads. That's ok. We're volunteer staff. When someone better comes along who'd like to donate their time and effort into trying to maintain the website, its content, and its users, power to them. I'll have hopefully helped to make that to a streamlined process by then.
But RP, like most social activities, means I'm going to spend my time how it's most enjoyable. If it stops being so, I move on. I'd recommend the same advice. Have a good day! It should have nothing to do with me, and I like it that way.
The site is just fine for posting events, finding events and RP contacts. Something you still do despite 'hating it' and it being a sewer. Yes, some parts are bad, but in this case a spoiled apple doesn't ruin the whole basket. There are some parts I don't like, as well. But you can't very well call it a sewer when you're sitting there using it for its intended purpose. All RP servers have drama, tumblr isn't any better. In fact, I'd argue the RP drama on tumblr is far worse.
I'm unsure as to why you're using the site for promoting your events and getting coverage for them when you're basically turning people off from the site. No Mod's Land is an opt-in (something you've clearly opted-into since you can say what's going on there), and if you don't go activate it on your account you don't ever see it. The community is strongly opinionated, but at this point, that's everywhere.
I know there's Jenova, as someone else mentioned, and Gilgamesh too. Just looked at the RPC's linkshell list just to see where there might be more RP, but apparently also Behemoth, Lamia, Moogle, Sartagannas, and Brynhildr. Hope this helps! You can also still transfer into Balmung, it can be hard to get in otherwise.
Coeurl seems to have an up and coming role-playing community but it's by no means a dedicated RP server.
I'm gonna echo Arrelaine's sentiments. I'd encourage anyone looking into FFXIV role-play to check out the RPC. It's not a flawless site. I won't say you'll find a ton of useful and civil discussion, that the moderators are unbiased, or that a chunk of its members aren't unsavory people. But it is still the best place we have presently to find and advertise events/FC's/LS's, make connections, and learn about lore or other information. Every site and every community has its problems and drama. (I will also say it's harder to find connections on tumblr, and the drama there is much, much worse, as it's 100% unmoderated, and it's where several people not civil enough to remain on the RPC have had to make their home.)
Before you switched the character tied to these post to a Roe you bore an amazing similarity to this character.

If that is not you I apologize for the mistaken identity. If it is you, well switching to a different character is dishonest. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and apologize though.
