I hope we get to change our character names, too.

I wonder, if they offered a name change, couldn't they just have it so your new name appears in place of the old one on linkshell and social lists? Unless half the people in your linkshell go for a name change, and there are still no decent linkshell controls, with a little collaboration it wouldn't be too hard to identify a troublemaker even if they had changed their name.

If someone steals a bunch of money from their guildmates, what they do is go out and join a different guild/linkshell where they aren't known (which would be essentially every other guild/linkshell in the game). They don't get a namechange and rejoin the same guild.

If someone happens to screw over a particular guild/linkshell, generally no one outside of the guild/linkshell cares. The situation you've described is not a realistic scenario.

u will probably change your name, i myself am a miqote but wants to be male miqote so they will probably add a name change and maybe the surname will remain the same, so for those with some guild issues can figure out with his surname who that person is. but guild issues, come on. :P

Question. While I understand XI had a strict thing with namechanges and the general consensus was that for the reasons of people cheating others and reputation you're not allowed to change name unless you create a mule with the name you currently have on another server / your name is already taken on another server, you hop server (for a price), you change your name upon arrival at the other server because it's taken, you wait 90 days to come back, you hop back to your original server for a price...) surely for the fact this is a one-time-only thing, the same won't apply? I mean, it's not like we're going to be able to change genders/races whenever the hell we feel like it; it's just this once.

I believe that name changes are going to happen because the devs said that there is an issue with current lengthy surnames (although, I don't recall where I read this).

So yeah, I'd say there's a 95% chance we will get to rename and we will likely have a smaller char limit for surnames.
