Heh, it's not about ambushing noobs with random gear(Though that would be kind of cool too, so don't let me stop you), it's about being able to meaningfully be helpful to someone of about the same level.
The other guy hit 14, my blacksmithing was 13, my mining was also 14. We were, in every way, peers, in this situation. And that was enough, and that was cool.
In the old system I would have needed to be half way to mastery on armorer(whyyyy) and be carrying around a higher level mat to have a chance(not much of a chance, I think mining picks needed guild support too!) at making the same item.
Thanks for sharing! It put a smile on my face- we need more of this to happen!
That type of community is what I'm searching for and much like Gramul has said, it has begun. I can't wait.
^^ I hope my encounters with people become more positive, I try to be a helpful player whenever I can. =D
Definitely awesome, I found myself making random gear for peeps on a whim myself. I had a new guy i partied with a couple times, and he got from 1-15 in a day, and I'm like hey let me crank out some dated sheep gear. I just happen to carry around all the mats for lots of stuff for leather and weaver, so I decked him out a little. He was grateful lol. After this last update I'm definitely getting a sense that this game is finally on the upswing, its a good feeling. Personally I've played sense beta, and I've really not played a whole lot like most, but i can tell you i plan to play frequently for the time being :D. I will say in the early days it felt like there was a similar, help each other out atmosphere that we are getting more of lately too. For me at least.
Edit: And wow this is my first post, something is wrong! I've been registered sense when?? lol..
OP, kudos for pointing out the real important part, how this new environment makes this possible.
Cheers to you SE
This is awesome, and I've found myself in a similar situation playing my pre-1.19 toon and the post-patch re-roll toon as well.
One toon has the craft skills already near ~10, so I have been playing tour guide with some new players and using some spare materials to craft one type of equipment or another once they have gotten the basics down. Something as simple as a pair of gloves or a hat really makes someone's day, believe me!
The newer toon is a little behind the tech curve, so focusing more on the exploration of the new mob locations and serving as a "hunting guide." My goal is to be able to ask players if they are looking to level, quest, or just collect some materials for crafting & be able to take them out for a quick trek to find what they need. As my own crafting skills build, I can provide some additional items to help them on the way.
Overall, every time I've played since the patch, I end up with at least one new person on my Social List and I find myself playing a little bit longer than I originally planned on. Even though I've been through all 3 cities and seen some parts of Coerthas, I really like the fact that a lot of areas have been improved on enough to make this feel like a new game.
It can still be hard to form a party with more than 1 other person due to lack of interest, and I imagine Linkshells will likely be fairly clique-ish as I've seen so far, but I am having more fun now than I have for then entire game since I bought it back in June. I look forward to my "Game Day" every week and seeing what happens next!
I, frankly, enjoyed this story. Stories like this give me hopes that we're heading in the right direction in this game. I can't wait to see where Yoshida and them decide to take us. :)
OP, it's people like you who help make the game fun!
