Not a fan of how azaz keeps pushing the narrative that if you erotic role play, you are a pedo.

It's totally possible for two adults to consent to do that activity.

What if I told you that cyber sex is the general term to cover any intimacy that happens over cyberspace? Shocking, isn't it?

If you have sex on a computer, it's cyber sex, whether it's ROLEPLAY or not.

I find the consistent denial in claiming erotic role-playing is not role-playing much more amusing, though yes, two consenting adults engaging in such things is not a new or foreign concept and happens more frequently than people are willing to admit.

ERP is undeniably cyber sex, but cyber sex is role-playing. It's not the sort of role-playing appropriate to a teen-rated game, but that's not an argument against it being RP.

It's only possible if you know the other person in real life and do the ERP where it cannot be overheard by others. For anyone you met through the game, however, you should (for this purpose) assume that they could be 13 years old. (And if you do your ERP though public channels like /say and /emote, you should also assume that 13 year olds are seeing it even if the person you're talking to is an adult.)

If you keep it in the /tell channel with an adult you know personally IRL, then it's only a ToS violation. If it's with anyone you met in-game, then it's cyber sex with a minor.

"If you". Yes, that is the crucial point.

Simply put, the difference between cybersex and erotic roleplaying is that cybersex is two people pretending to have sex with each other over the Internet. Erotic roleplaying is two people role-playing ("pretending") that their characters have sex with each other. Very important distinction.

If it is ERP "you" are not having sex, your character is. The gender, appearance, etc. of the player behind the other character are irrelevant - after all neither you nor your character are pretending to have sex with them.


While cybersex is generally done in order to receive some kind of sexual pleasure from it, ERP does not need to involve that at all.

Being involved in ERP does not mean that "you" have sex any more than having your character cut down untold number of foes on the screen make "you" a killer.

the point is that you take part in behavior that is forbidden by TOS agreement. The requirement by SE is act in respect for your other players. you won't do behavior of intimacy in front of really 13 year old children would you. then why would you do it on game that allow 13 year old kids to play. this in fact is doing the behavior in front of a 13 years kids, because you don't know who else is play on FFXIV beside your self.

This thread went so off the rails its now tumbling towards the sun.

Fine then lets make all online games M rated. That way mom and dad has no one to to blame but them selves when their kids run into this kind of thing.

SE has a disclaimer stating that online interactions are not rated by the ESRB. Not that you should use this as an excuse to act poorly or make people uncomfortable, but that disclaimer DOES prevent players from being banned for participating in mature content. See the attached image if you need proof.

No, it doesn't. The Terms of Service allow SE to ban you for explicit chat, and they will, but you'll only get banned for it after it's occurred, which means some children may already have seen it. That disclaimer just prevents SE being sued by parents because an infraction of the rules occurred before the offender was banned for it.

Banning is an after-the-fact reaction. SE doesn't have the ability to actually prevent the offence from occurring, so they don't want to be legally liable for it.
