If the game has been using the same formula since 2.0 and has been growing since, why would it go downhill now? Where are the evidence of it going downhill?
Not denying that at the present theres a lack of endgame content, and its true that certain weaknesses have not been addressed by the expansion, but there hardly has been any significant changes that would make the game go down hill.
If you are going to be a naysayer, at the very least be factual.

Because eventually people get bored and sick of the same thing. Would you wanna eat the same thing day in and day out? Or wear the same thing over and over? Probably not. Back then people dealt with it because while it was rinse repeat, at least we were finishing up the coil story, and they were introducing somewhat new things, now its just total carbon copy and people are seeing that and unsubbing.

Well it doesn't matter anyway I suppose, I am sure SE sees how the subs are dropping...if they do something about it or not, who knows lol.

Well if people are claiming that their FC is absolutely briming with people and they're all perfectly happy, my anecdote about my own FC has to be just as legit. 70 total members, 30+ active at HW release, now perfectly dead (yes, I counted myself). Last time I logged in to actually play the game was close to 3 weeks ago. Suggesting people to unsub 'for a while' does not work. People who do listen to this suggestion are more likely to just never come back because they WILL find other things to pre-occupy them and WILL spend money on them.

Asking them to come back to the same type on content they took a break from isn't gonna work short term. Expansion hype might work to bring them back but that didn't even last on my fc. Almost a dozen people came back to check HW and then unsubbed when they saw that this is all this game is to offer. You HAVE to remember that you can't voice your opinions on the game if you're unsubbed. Voicing your opinion when people in this forum adamantly defends can-do-no-wrong yoship is not worth the sub to a game you don't want to play anymore. The rest of us that can still post stuff like this is because some still want to believe in the game, some do it as a last ditch effort before having to abandon the game.

This is exactly my point, where can I see with my own eyes that subs are dropping? You cant just go around and throw number that you dont know for certain exist.

@Gardes your last sentence make it sounds like game is dead, when its in fact competing with WoW for the top mmo spot. In my post you quoted I said that i do not deny weaknesses in game that can be improved on, just that people are getting way too dramatic.
Im willing to bet that every +.1 patch, we have people saying that game's dying and they are unsubbing, yet the next .1 cycles comes around its the same exact group saying the exact same thing.

If you view someones character info, it will show them as having no jobs. As in it'll have the list like a - - - throughout their whole job list. As it stands right now only 4/66 of my FC are subbed. Can check your FC and FL now to see :) Of course it doesn't let you know the entire amount of who has unsubbed throughout the entire game, but its a start.

Right. Im more concerned about the entire playerbase. Players come and go, but if we are losing players faster than we are bring them in, then certain improvements really need to be looked at. Otherwise excessive negativity could scare away potential new players.

with the release of upcoming MMORPGS like black desert online i can see FFXIV losing a huge chunk of subscribers, admittedly myself included unless they begin seriously addressing this problem and not idly brushing it off

I'm tired, but then again, it has been a long day, and it is bed time.
