I think what we're forgetting is where the AF and AF2 are coming from. AF, and pretty much a ton of other helmets, are from or based on helmets from 1.0 where graphics were king and your computer isn't good enough. Animations were a big part of that experience to the woeful exclusion of gameplay. Seriously, animation lock was real, as was the struggle against it. Understandably, something as simple as /visor in 2.0 isn't going to be given the same 1.0 treatment. The Dragoon AF2 helmet isn't the only helmet introduced in 2.0 to have simplified visuals. Amon's Chapeau has a sleep blindfold that just kind of tucks away. The snowman head, the 'mouth' disappears. There's just more important things to worry about, like making the armor in general look like worthy AF (which it does).
