Fang and Claw and Wheeling Thrust need some fixing.

Looking through every other jobs skill set, none of them seem to risk losing 190 Potency to a coin flip. Losing being the important part. Bard, Machinist and Black Mage delay a high potency skill it doesn't get lost permanently.

Monks risk losing 50 potency on almost each gcd bar some exceptions which makes them to miss more damage on average over a fight duration than a dragoon. The difference grows to stupid levels if the enemy has moving patterns, the monk needs to kill adds then hit the boss again from closest position (not always optimal) to avoid risk losing gl3 or the tank just needs to recolocate it due to certain atacks/patterns too often etc. No counting that losing 50 potency on a class that has 21% extra damage +10% daamage 10% blunt damage reduction increases that 50 value quite high

The horror!! Buff poor dragoons!! They need to headbutt the keyboard for optimun damage or they wont be competitive at all!! *sarcasm*

As someone who also has a monk leveled but isn't quite as jaded as you are, just because I have to move all the time and sometimes sacrifice positionals just to keep a timer from falling off on one job doesn't mean that same system should have been applied to another. The main reason of those skills is to try to increase the skill celling. Before, even a monkey could play dragoon decently but then it came the cons: Dragoon was inferior to both ninja and monk on a raid value. Increasing the skill celling allow the devs to put the classes more balanced between each other, otherwise the simpliest class will be always underperfoming compared with the more complex classes due to that is better to have 1 class underperforming than having more classes being neglected since the easier class perform as good as them making it the best and only choice to get unless you wanna make things harder to yourself and/or your FC.

People wont break their necks playing a more complex class when you can get X class bang your head against the keyboard and perform almost at the same level. Like it or not if the other classes are more complex they must up the complexity level if they want to reach other classes level

You shouldn't lose it at all. You're already in position to use those spells. After Chaos Thrust, you're at the back as it is. After Full Thrust, you should still be at the back. You have a full 2,5 GCD to literally go to the flank if you have that, and that's only like 2 steps to the left or right if you're playing the class correctly.

If that's too difficult for you, then maybe BRD is your cup of tea.

That, basically.

I can smash a dummy all day long and manage the rotation fine, but that doesn't transfer into actual fights very well. Damn near every boss thus far has some mechanic that's going to force you out of a positional and it's going to screw you out of 190 potency. End of story.

the skill bloat is real.

the main problem i see with wheeling thrust and fang and claw is that other than positionals, they are 100% the same. there is no incentive to have both besides finishing the dragoon story and Geirskogul. the massive potency drain is only part of the problem. from what i have seen it dumbed down the rotation a lot too (i actually liked the minute-long dance i did as a dragoon. it was kinda fun.)

Granted, the RNG involved is something I can work around but its singular function is to prevent thinking ahead and intelligent positioning by forcing you to look at the buff and move after seeing which one you get. It doesn't add any considerable difficulty, just a minor annoyance.
