I don't understand.
Ifrit HM is one of the first things you can do at fresh 50. You have to do it just to get your relic weapon. What sort of expectations can you even have for it?

Given the hyper-entitled attitudes that way too many people seem to have, they've probably long forgotten that this is a base relic weapon trial and think that Ifrit is just there to be repeatedly nutpunched for Nexus/Zeta light.
@OP -- I'm sorry you went through that. It sounds like it was a shitty experience with what basically amounts to the lowest common denominator out there in Duty Finder. Not everyone is like that, though. Incidentally... while it was the Dragoon's fault for pulling, the situation could've been salvaged a lot more easily with the Provoke skill. It's honestly kind of stupid that such an indispensible skill is acquired via cross-classing it, but it is what it is. Hopefully that's something that they're planning to address somehow in Heavensward so Warriors have a provoke of their own.
Seems like the usual trinity-based MMO dilemma.
1) It's especially hard to perform your role as an undergeared tank or (to lesser degree unless the tank insists on over-sized pulls) healer.
2) It's difficult to get gear (usually due to sheer queue times) as anything but a tank or healer.
Edit: This is why Elusive Jump often figures into my opening rotation in certain trial roulettes (usually from max range on one side across to the other side of the boss just after LS-Full Thrust). Sadly, not much I can do about it as Monk, except to tank it.
to OP:
1. Gears does not equal skills. More gears meaning more experience. More experience passively and probably leads to better skills. But it's not a certainty.
2. Whoever pulls, whoever tanks. If dps pulls, let him tank.
3. Provoke is important.
4. Gears are important.
5. ilvl requirement in this game is a joke.
6. Don't feel too bad just because of assholes.
last, i'm sorry that this happened to you.. And yes sometimes one just needs to vent. It's okay ♥
So when a lot of nails aren't killed, is it the tanks' fault too? Ifrit HM is way too easy to be giving anyone shit.
I feel bad for the OP and this type of thing is the very reason that, no matter how many people try out DRK, the amount of 'available' tanks for the DF will probably not increase. Everyday we see more stories of tanks who get discouraged by the 'high-level' group after having fun 1-49. This is, in my opinion as a main WHM but with PLD at a still low i110, due to the nature of everyone wanting everything to go according to however they script it out in their mind as the way "it is supposed to go" -- which usually is speed running with a bunch of i130 people. There is little wonder that most tanks, at least who I know, tend to only tank for friends or FC and avoid DF like the plague. Thus...the idea there is a 'lack of tanks' when usually that should be 'lack of tanks willing to deal with the terrible DF experience'.
skill>gear.
but thats not to say you will have a hard time holding argo against a higher geared person... even if they pulled first.
You need Provoke.
This skill (if not being used for a swap mechanic) is still extremely useful if everyone else is way over geared. hold hate as long as you can, then let them go ham, then take that arrgo they built +1 Still with all the nail phases in HM you should have had plenty of time to build sufficient arrgo.
You are the leader.
When the leader looks unorganized and unprepared then get ready for a flurry of (completely unjustified) hate. DPS can walk in blind, hell even heals most the time. Tanks cannot.
Most important... Hold your ground, gear, arrgo, ilvs... none of that shit makes a difference if you hold arrgo. Thats all that matters.
This is the community at work most of them are in the mindset that gear is better than skill. There are times that you'll see BIS DPS get knocked off by easily avoidable mechanics and blame lag or X thing. This is a problem being a Tank that you are under a microscope 100% of the time. You make a minor mistake or do something that people aren't used to they are quick to blame. You just need to better yourself and learn from the failures. Kinda like real-life you need to pick yourself up and wipe the dirt off.
Provoke is optional yes, but its a vital skill to have. I think Yoshi P said a long time ago that you could do end-game without cross-class skills, but it would be more difficult for the player. When the game was about to launch and during early access a lot of players leveled all their classes to 20 before the game launched. It gave the players access to their job instantly when they got their main class to 30, and also supplied them with beneficial cross-class skills. I did this, and eventually when I started endgame I needed to be more versatile. This made me level up all my classes to 50, gaining more skills, and gives you some perspective from the other side.
We're two weeks from HW, and people are starting to panic getting their 2.0 - 3.0 stuff done before it hits. This is making people lose all logic, and switch into the "Single" player mindset of "Me Me Me" which doesn't work as intended in the MMO Scene.
I just hope that you keep tanking the good fight! Maybe level up GLD get provoke if you want to or not. You'll only get better from this, so keep your chin up and keep trucking.
Cross-classed provoke is imo the best example of how something the game treats as being "optional", really isn't. You must have it, and, harsh as it is, I don't really think you can consider yourself a good tank without it. That is a side-issue though, it is vital for a lot of encounters, but not because you may need to provoke off impatient idiots.
You should've just stood still, then when they wipe say you just went to get a glass of water or something and why did they pull... let them do the explaining lol
This is what happens when most people massively outgear content tho, because you can ignore most mechanics and other things that SHOULD be done (like letting the tanks tank!) and still win, a lot of people try exactly that... and get whiny when their impatience doesn't pay off.
Is a shame, but a lot of people just reaching 50 now will never get to see some mechanics. Other day in a garuda HM for whatever reason we went into last phase where the feathers appear, someone commented they'd never seen them before
Before you go any further into end game I HIGHLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY recommend you go get provoke immediately. Any tank that is going to be serious about end game tanking needs it. There's going to be a few fights where it is required b/c a tank swap is needed to survive an attack. But I will say that you just need to ignore those people. They were farming lights and obviously were being a bunch of idiots. If a DRG pulls then let him tank and die. It's the easiest way to teach a DPS to not do that again. But seriously go get provoke lol like asap.
